She cleverly post-dated the check, so the police say there is nothing I can do legally. She just hangs up the phone when I call her.

Does that surprise you?
Call and tell her...ask when you can redeposit it.

If the check won't clear the bank, you can take her to court. The crime is tecnically called " uttering and publishing".

If she refuses to talk to you on the phone, send her a registered letter with your complaint, and explaining the legal action you are considering. BE SERIOUS. Do not make empty threats, and keep it legal!

Do NOT let her hide behind her husband's position! That is total crap! If they REFUSE TO PAY for work done, take the spiritual matter to your church board, and take the legal matter to the court!

Remember the scriptures? "No, you do wrong, and you defraud, and you do this to your own brethren!!" Read the whole of 1 Corinthians 6 to the church board. If they insist on defrauding you, they are not acting as Christians. State that, and then proceed with the court case!

Be prepared to change churches.

Post dating a check is not against the law! It is your responsibilitiy to look at the date when she handed you the check! It is her responsibility to explain why the check is post dated! Perhaps if you redeposit the check into your account the check will clear!
If her check does not clear at all and she refuses to respond to you than you have 2 choices. The first choice is to go to her husband and if that does not work than go to the court house and file a claim in small claims court!
Best wishes!

Go to the minister himself and explain what happened- tell him no hard feelings and we all make mistakes. If that does not work tell the wife that the congregation is a bad place to start a rumor.

You could contact the attorney general in your state because if I'm not mistaking its still fraud even if its post dated. If the date of post date is close wait til then and call Sheriff not police in your county. You could also take her to court if it is worth the trouble.

Wow, that's just ridiculous. I would approach the minister and tell him you have an awkward situation and what would he recommend. I am sure he will make good on it. You have no reason to be embarassed -- you are the one who has been wronged.

Call your minister. Ask him for advice for this situation. Don't mention its his wife. If he tells you to forget it, then he knows and condones her stealing from you. If he tells you to confront her, then show him the check and ask him to make it good.

see what the bank can do first. usually they can resubmit the check.
then speak to her privately at church, ask if perhaps they need to make a few smaller payments.
if that doesnt work, go to the pastor.

Take her to Christian court?
Ask Jesus to smite her?
Yeah, your question does sound a little made up. I'm sure minister's wives have better things to do than defraud memebers of her husband's congregation.
