my three year old wont go to bed! she doesnt nap in the afternoon, has a good solid routine everyday, eats nutrtious home cooked meals, had her warm tub and warm milk and quiet time story
but just wont go to sleep
whats up?
this has only been a problem for about three nights- and we havent made a big deal about it- theres no "in trouble" in my home, just "oh, hwy are you up baby?"

true insomnia means absolutely no sleep, not less sleep. my mother and i both suffer bouts occasionally. so, if she is simply going to sleep later, don't fret. wake her up earlier. this will be harder on you but should help to readjust her schedule. take her walking around the block or to a sandbox or park. also, for the one to two hours before bedtime, change the activity to something calm and quiet; like drawing or more reading, look at more pictures, a longer bath. consider that she may be going through some type of physical development spurt and may actually need more sleep but is fighting the feeling. it is very hard for little ones to understand that feeling and that they will not miss anything by going to sleep.

Its a stage.. They do that sometimes when they're growing or something is changing in them... both mine had periods like that and then they slowly went away.. Or the overtired thing. Sounds like you're doing all the right things, just suffer through it for a few more nights and if it keeps up then check with the doctor so its not sleep apnea or some other sleeping disorder

When children experience stress, they can be insomniac or they may want to sleep excessively. Both are symptoms of stress in children, as well as bowel changes. She also may be going through a "cognitive" growth spurt, which causes children to not want to sleep. An adult is similar when they are excited or thinking a lot about someone, it is hard to sleep. When a child is on the brink of learning, they do the same thing. I hope that your child's insomnia is completely healthy and that this is a part of her normal development.

well from my experience with my almost three yr old, i found that i have a "window" of apportunity between 6:30 to 8:30pm. in that time he pretty much goes right to sleep. after 8:30, he's so overtired that he's hyper and it can take until even 11pm to get him to sleep. you know the classics: "i'm hungry", "i need the toilet", "i want a drink", "i'm not tired"...ect. are heard mostly after the "8:30 window" closes.

btw, he'll often get up between 4 and 5:00am, feed himself a yoguart and go back to sleep by himself. of course he wakes me to say he's going to the kitchen. so far i'm not worried. often he'll call me cuz he needs some help opening it or getting a spoon from the drawer or dish-drainer... whatever, way off topic!

I noticed my 3y old wanting to sleep less too. Maybe just increase the physical activities during the day, and push back bedtime for 30-60 minutes.

being a mother of five,i think these kids have an internal voice saying keep going if you don't your going to miss something.i have a two year old that's like an energizer bunny she keeps going and going and well you no the rest of the story.good luck and no i sure need it but it's fun being a mom

my mom claims that I've been an insomniac since the age of two. I would stay up late and watch HBO apparently...

I'm 26 and still an insomniac, I've come to terms that I will always be sleep deprived.

You must treat your baby for a discipline at what time have meal,at what time for playing and at what time for bathing and for sleeping.orderly every day.Please try you sleep together and telling a good story for kid I hope at last your kid will sleep.
If your kid really has an insomnia you should consult to your doctor.

She could be just over tired. Have you tried to lay down with her. She also could be just going thru a new stage it will affect her sleeping, like if she learned something new. Or she could just be testing to see what you are going to do.
