I'm trying to improve my German by reading German poetry by Goethe, only problem is I can't find them in German, I can only find English translations. Does anybody know where I can find them, preferably online?

If someone can reference a specific book, then in Book form is fine.

Douglas, if you happen to actually develop into a human being, let Yahoo know, because I just reported you....You might say it's babyish, I say that it was more mature than you.

I hope these help:

If you dare to read Goethe, it means you already have a good command of German. Congratulations! hopefully, in a few centuries I'll be able to do the same :p

i'm an area speaker and that i had to examine Goethe's Faust contained in the 12th twelve months of school. Goethe write extraordinarily complicated or perhaps german human beings have problems with information what he actual potential... it relatively is like reading a e book from the 18th century in English.. The language is in basic terms a sprint different- older.. perhaps you could attempt to examine something from Schiller. He substitute into agreat author and poet too yet writes a lot simpler!

Wow. Goethe is written in pretty descriptive German, so if you are using him to improve it should indicate that you have a good command of German now. You find a lot of books using german websites, such as
http://www.amazon.de
with Goethe books on:
http://www.amazon.de/s/ref=nb_ss_w/028-3219105-8250910?__mk_de_DE=%C3%85M%C3%85Z%C3%95%C3%91&url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=goethe&Go.x=15&Go.y=11

or with
http://www.ebay.de/

http://buecher.search.ebay.de/goethe_Buecher_W0QQsacatZ267
(You can even buy it on CD or tape and then read along so you can catch the accents!)

Alles Gut!

Sorry, but as much as I estimate Goethe as a poet, do you want to sound 200 years out of date? If it is only to improve your understanding of the language, it's fine, as long as you don't try to model your speech on it. Rilke is another one I'd recommend, but my favourites are Brecht (poems not plays) Gottfried Benn, and, best of all, Heinrich Heine.
I think all of them can be found at gutenberg.
