Yes I believe it is bad business on Wal-Marts part. I don't think the Average Joe will go on thieving frenzy just to get his/her kids gifts. Folks may just have to get Christmas clubs at bank or save money in some other way. With enough complaining they might keep it around.

Ihope they don't. This is the best way not to use a credit card. Sure K-Mart has it, but most of our K-Marts closed a few years back. Meijer has it, but its seasonal. only during the holiday season. Believe it or not, people do still use layaway. I think it will hurt the company.
They don't think about the smaller people anyway. I try my best not to shop there, unless it is a layaway. I usually drive the extra 2 miles to another store.

I disagree. The customers will either save the money or go to rent-to-own places. WalMart will save money because they won't need an "associate" at Layaway all the time, and the space can be used for other purposes. Sam would be proud.

Oh, they're getting rid of it?!? That *is* awful! I remember that when I was 20 and not able to get a credit card, the layaway program was the only reason I was able to give my family decent Christmas gifts. I don't understand why they'd do that--it seems impractical, for all the reasons you said.
Credit cards also lead to tons of debt, even if you can use them.

i do not know where you got your information that walmart is not going to end the layaway program since walmart is one of the few that have the program. shopko, target and a few other stores do not have layaway. kmart still does but its limited vs walmart does not have a limit on the amount of layaways you have

i fit this category, i am a single mother when my sons father and i split up he left me with tons of bills which i consolidated and can not get a credit card, i buy all my sons summer and winter clothes and shoes toys etc. x-mas
anyone who wants walmart to reverse their decision should call 1-800 walamart and ask for it to be reversed or walmart.com and click on contact us, kmart has layaway and i plan to use kmart for all my shopping needs, and i heard target is going to get layaway, so i will use kmart ubtil target gets it.
anyone wanting any info on kmarts layaway call 1-800-549-4505 or kmart.com contact us and ask them about their layaways.
so long wlamart you will no longer get my money

They will have to just save the money until they have the full amount to make the purchase. Simple. People do it all the time.
