Honestly. If your dog is seriously bleeding from a head wound from a fatal contusion, why loiter around on the computer when you could be driving to your vet? Come on people. Show at least a scrap of intelligence here.

Catlover7018414 - I appreciate your input, and you have quite a few points that I hadn't fully considered.
However. I'm more referencing the extremely obvious questions of pet care. I understand completely that these forums can be a wonderful resource for information one would otherwise have to pay for, but many of these people have no experiance as a professional. Realistically, it just isn't a risk you should take with a possibly endangered beloved pet. I completely see where you're coming from, though. Certainly.

I know what you mean. There are some behavioral issues, that other's ideas could help. And, I know when I first got my dog, I went to the vet for dog throwing up, to be told, dogs eat stuff and throw up all the time. But, I haven't asked a dog question, yet, because, I asked more reliable, yet free dog experts' advice, like my former dog trainer. For instance, after my dog wasn't healing from hot spot after 6 mos., I asked her if I should try holistic vet, and she said, go for it and gave me a name. Best thing I've done for her! Why ask here when a lot of people answer on dog or cat questions that "I don't own a cat or dog" and I'd have to wade through all the bored kid, or kid-like answerers" silly, and often unintelligible, responses for something I seriously want to know.

well aside from an emergency situation such as the one you described, asking random people could actually be helpful given that everyone has different experiences with different clinical cases. People seem to think that vets and doctors in general are these magical cure-all beings. Well, I'm a pre-vet student and I can say for sure they are not. Sure, most all vets can do the routine clinical stuff, but diagnoses is another issue....I'm currently trying to find a diagnoses for my cat cause the vets don't know jack. And I've already spent $4000. So there you go, the answer to your question is 'to save money and potentially find someone who may know the answer to a difficult case.'

I've often wondered the same thing. I understand why people would ask about the small things like the best treatments for fleas so you don't waste money on something that doesn't work but for life-threatening situations people really need to ask a vet. Maybe they are hoping it isn't as bad as the little voice of common sense in the back of their mind is telling them it is.

Yes agree with you! I look at the asks other questions and some of the are just for attention in different category's! Always look at the questioners other questions before you assume a animal is in pain. I have worked in an office where a cat sneezes and the owner want to be seen right away. And also the opposite where they wait until it is to late for almost to late to help the animal.

When it comes to serious stuff like injuries, illness, etc, I don't know what people are thinking, At the very least, you'd think a pet health care/first-aid website would be a step up from this. But some people are just plain dumb, and shouldn't be allowed to own pets.

Right on!!! I've worked around animals for years, and it pains me to see some of the ridiculous questions on here! I swear one day I'll come across something like "My dogs head just fell off, should I take it to the vet?" or "Yeah my cat ate a bag of poison will it be ok?" Sheesh, whatever happened to common sense!

Duh... Not all of us can afford a vet. Often, it only takes a few minutes to get a great answer from the "answers" community. It takes longer to drive to the vet. If it is a fatal contusion, you're wasting your time anyway.
