I think people want to believe stem cell research will be the cure all for many of our ills. While it is true that there hasn't been any successful cases in the use of embryonic stem cells, there are hundreds of success stories from using other (non-embryonic) stem cells, such as the ones found in umbilical cords (which people donate after birth). The problem is that the embryonic stem cells are uncontrollable; when scientists begin to coax them to grow, they can go in any direction (e.g. skin, bone, hair, whatever)--we can't control them.

It sure has produced something. There is a lot of controversy and even hate along with a promise of helping others. It sure has shaken up many of the religious people out there as well. What good was the wheel until someone attached it to something. So many times the benefits and hazards are not realized until some time later. DDT a great product until it was discovered it had serious effects later. There many things that will come from the stem cell research and time will let us know just what it is.

People are sensitive to different issues. Like why do some people get upset when suggesting using abortive fetuses for stem cell research....

Because you are WRONG. A friend of mine went to China two years ago for experimental therapy. He had a severed spinal cord from a bad car accident when he was 17. Stem Cell Research was used to CURE HIM. He can WALK now, where before he couldn't even feel his legs. Now, he walks (though with a limp).....how is that not producing anything that works???

It makes me angry because most people that oppose it don't know anything about it! Learn a little bit about human anatomy and physiology before you try to talk about it. Did you ever think that maybe if you guys would allow research to be done, then maybe something could get done? It sickens me the possibilities that stem cell research could open up that are being blocked!

Because it is a political statement, and not a statement of fact. Stem cell research is like anything else that is of unknown value. It will either produce something useful, or it will not. And there is no way of knowing without trying.
You seem smart enough to "get it".

Just to clear things up, scientists don't see themselves as gods, nor do they try to create human life like god, people just don't comprehend the sheer amount of good stem cell research can do

When you take stem cells from your own body and put them back into your body that does work. And aborted babes shouldn't be used.

I'm sure eventually it will work. I've got this crazy idea that we could use this research to make lunchmeat and other food products without having to make animals suffer. Who knows? maybe we can make new yummy hybrid meats. I don't want to play GOD, I just want us to create new things.
