It doesn't cause acne, its just a disinfectant is all. Alchohol with some nice smelling aroma is all it is.

If you use aftershave and then break out with pimples, it's not acne; it's just a mild reaction to the aftershave. Also, the pimples/bumps caused by shaving aren't acne, either. That's caused by the irritation to your skin (remember, when you shave you actually remove a very thin layer of skin, not just hairs). After you have been shaving for a while, the irritation will go away.
There's no need to use aftershave of any sort. Aftershaves contain (mostly) alcohol, plus an astringent of some type (like witchazel), which helps to sterilize your skin after shaving, and to close up your pores. Plus, they usually contain a fragrance. If it's the fragrance you're after, just buy some cologne. It will last longer, anyway.
As long as you use a fairly new, very sharp razor, and you wash your face thoroughly (with hot water) after shaving, you eliminate the need for aftershave. They also sell lotions you can apply to your face, to moisturize your skin after shaving. These products can also relieve the irritation, too, and help with the breakouts.

I have heard that shaving itself causes irritation that leads to breakouts which may not be acne, but another skin irritation, dermatitus. One man I know only used face cream to shave with and nothing else. Hair conditionner is also a good way to relax the hair without causeing irritation (great for "bikini lines" where women tend to get those nasty red "bumps" after shaving!) I think that aftershave /alcohol is very drying and its main use is to disinfect any nicks and such. You could treat those with Neosporin instead.
Some guys just have to grow a beard because of problems shaving. I know this is allowed in certain cases in the military forces.

I don't beleve it's the aftershave, it's of the fact that when you shave, some of the hair follicals are pushed back into the skin causeing ingrowen hairs. These will fester and cause small pimples. This may be what your noticeing. and no aftershave you are prone to razor burn and sensitive skin to the touch more than it would be if you used it. hope this helps you out.

I never use aftershave AND NOTHING HAPPENS. This is a farst derived from commercials for aftershave
Most have skin conditioners that make you feel good, but ac- ke-hol( won't get you drunk either) that gives that burning sensation.. You really don't need aftershave if
you change blades in your razor regularly

No aftershave does not effect or cure ACNE.
Its just a kind of antiseptic with fragrance. If there is a small cut during shaving it helps to cure that cut. For this purpose you may use any antiseptic liquid in dilute form. However with this liquid if would not spread any fragrance to attract girls.

Sometimes aftershave has a warning that if it causes irritation you should stop using it and consult a doctor.

that's acne caused by ingrown hair. I still get them all of the time. My solution. Once I was capable of growing a beard, I did. Problem solved. I didn't grow hair on my face very early, so it was a long wait.

Only if you leave it on. You'll save money by not using aftershave. But your skin will be REAL dry and flaky.
