I feel like a terrible parent for feeling this way! Of course I go and sit through all the stuff because I want my 8-year-old daughter to know I care about her, but I am SO BORED sitting on bleachers for hours! I know it means a lot to her, so I do it. But when I look around at all the other parents, they look like they're really into it. Please someone tell me I'm not alone for feeling this way!

I remember sitting through endless basketball, baseball, and softball games - all for the love of my children.

I do NOT even like sports...never did...never will!

Usually, I brought a book or magazine to read or a puzzle to work, but I stayed aware of the game enough to know when my child was in the game so I wouldn't miss that one in a thousand hit or basket or...

And now, with the wisdom of age, I realize it was well worth it. It boils down to a few hours out of your life. So, while you may not enjoy it - keep right on doing it. It will all come to a sudden end when you least expect it...then you MIGHT even miss it. I do.

YOu are definitly not alone. I have three kids the oldest is 14 and it is sports, band events, karate things, piano recitals, the youngest two it soccer, baseball, karate, dance lessons, piano and everything else there is never a day that we arent going somewhere for at least one of them. I have found that the more you try to like it the worse it gets so I just kick back and relax. At practices I take along a magazine or a book at games I actually watch. Getting involved as far as helping coach or keep score also helps to fight the boredom of it all.

Have you tried to become more involved. Maybe as an assistant coach. My daughter plays softball and I am the score keeper. It helps keep me involved and entertained while the games drag on. During practice I take a book or something else to do that will make time go faster. I do think most parents feel that way to some degree

No your not a terrible parent as even though you don't enjoy your child's sport you still sit there and watch rather then leaving her there and come back to pick her up. I found when I took my daughter to Gymnastics I did not mind I was one of the parents that was getting into it. but my son plays Cricket and I hate the game and there for I hate watching he is older and told me that he does not want me there any way so I got lucky and felt like I was let of the hook but he is almost 16 years old as well.

I love it. My son plays football and we are ALWAYS at the field practicing. Try talking with the other parents and get to know them. That will help to take up some time and you will also get to know the parents of the other children. A lot of us parents sit and talk and laugh and have a really good time. Another thing you could do it walk while your little one is practicing. I do that as well. Get some of the parents to join you. You could take a book or magazine as well. Love this and take advantage of it, before you know it, she will be all grown up and going to college. Good luck

I cant say im righ there with you as my kids are only 2.5 and 10 months. But I can say why dont you do something to get yourself into it...
Why dont you wear the team shirts and make her a sign.
If that still doesnt work then take a little hobby with you, aka cross stiching, knitting, etc.
If your daughter ask why you do this just tell her it helps your mind relaxe so that you can enjoy the time at her events.

No you are not alone. But like others have said try getting involved some way. Or talk to the other parents during the game.

Nope I never did get bored...but then when I thought I might I just thought about the type of person she might become if she didn't have something constructive like sports, or musical events, school plays to be a part of. Know what happens when kids get bored? Vandalism, gangs, robberies, murders...Nope never was bored, thinking of it that way.

the important thing is not that you go, but that you care... if your daughter plays softball, and hits a home run and you dont start jumping up and down, yelling and screaming and telling her good job at the top of your lungs, then what is the point of you even going? and dont even tell me that she doesnt notice that you're bored.... believe me. my mom used to do the same crap with me when i was playing soccer, and i really would have rather she didnt come and show me how little she cared for my interests
