I wouldn't stop using any other forms of birth control. You really should wait 3 months for the pill to become fully effective. It is one of those pills that has to gradually build up in your system. You don't just take it for 3 months and poof you are covered.
I think that the 3 month rule is because no two woman are exactly alike and it may take a month an half for one and the full 3 for another so the drug companies tell you 3 months to cover their own butts.
(Just my opinion)

Even if you think your safe I would recommend you use something else along with it. I was on the pill and got pregnant twice. Come to find out if you are on antibiotics they can cause the pill not to be effective. You need to find out all the things to look for.

When I first started the pill my doctor told me that I should use backup protection (a condom) for the first 2 weeks and then after that, although you can still get pregnant, it should be taking effect.

For safety, wait a month. But just remember, even if it's a small chance, there are a reasonable amount of females who have been on the pill (or other forms of it eg depo), used condoms, used spermicides and still fallen pregnant.
