I recognize that some Israelis have darker skin tones but I've never met an American Jewish person that didn't have quite fair skin. Am I wrong?

it doesn't matter but my friend always points out people w/ dark skin to me.

Who knows why people say what they say? I've seen both so there is no one type...just like everyone else.

Most Jewish people I've known have had light skin although I've known some Israelis too and they've all had olive skin. It's not because Israelis have a tan, it's because a large number of Israelis originally came from other Middle Eastern countries that expelled them upon Israel's creation. Most American Jews came from Europe, hence the light skin.

i know many jewish friends with light skin, olive skin, dark skin... you get the point. israeli is obviously different than being brought up jewish in america. my best friend is irish and jewish... whitest boy you've ever seen. another is right off the boat from israel. obviously darker. who knows... people say all sorts of stuff that isn't true or stereotypical.

I think you need a new friend. I mean, what's with this thing of pointing out dark-skinned people, for pete's sake! And y'know, in my sixty years, I've seen exactly two people whose skin had an olive shading to it - they were Gypsies. And them ain't Jewish...

Wo told you olive skin has to be darK?? My husband has olive skin and even though my skin is very light, his is actually lighter than mine.
Also, maybe you are referring to Semitic people (from the middle east). Most Jews I know are European and are not olive complected. Even most of the Israeli Jews are European. go figure.

In Israel more Jewish people have olive skin than in the US. Maybe its from all the various races there intermingling

Modern Jews are of European decent. The original Hebrew 'race' is long lost.

Well, if you haven't realized, the sun is more intense in places like Israel as opposed to NY, which is far north of Israel and has more cloud cover.
