With all that is going on in the world how come it seems that Christians have a huge hang up with gays/lesbians?

What is the big deal? What are gay people destroying that has Christians so freaked out?

well for me personally, i don't want my children to see such nonsense, i think it affects kids and makes me have to talk to them about it before i am ready and before my kids are ready

my 6 yr. old daughter started asking questions when she seen 2 men kissing and holding hands in public, thats not right and its not fair for the straight ppl

another thing is it goes against what the bible says,
if the bible was all for it then there is a big chance that u and i wouldn't be here today that is y God made it so that men can't have children with men and women can't have children with women.

another thing is they blame God for them being that way saying He made a mistake, GOD DON'T MAKE MISTAKES. it is a choice they made themselves.

should i go on?

As a christian I'm certainly not hung up about 'the homosexual thing' - I just won't compromise my beliefs or what the bible teaches because of political correctness.
I guess I could ask why people are so hung up on 'christians being entitled to hold an opinion that goes against popular culture'.
The world likes to shove their opinions and what I should or should not approve of down my throat but I gauge these things from the teachings of the bible. A true christian won't be bullied or swayed by any particular group to change their belief system and values.

Because it identifies an enemy to bond the group against a common foe. Even if the enemy is not people per se, but their actions.

It's completely hypocritical, and fortunately some denominations have realized this.

Consider these two passages:
"You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination." (Lev 18:22)

"These you may eat, of all that are in the waters. Everything in the waters that has fins and scales, whether in the seas or in the streams — such you may eat. But anything in the seas or the streams that does not have fins and scales, of the swarming creatures in the waters and among all the other living creatures that are in the waters — they are detestable to you and detestable they shall remain. Of their flesh you shall not eat, and their carcasses you shall regard as detestable. Everything in the waters that does not have fins and scales is detestable to you.[...] You shall therefore make a distinction between the clean animal and the unclean, and between the unclean bird and the clean; you shall not bring abomination on yourselves by animal or by bird or by anything with which the ground teems, which I have set apart for you to hold unclean."
(Lev 11:9-12, 20:25)

It's an abomination and against the will of God to practice homosexuality?

It's an abomination and against the will of God TO EAT LOBSTER. In exactly the same terms.

Now, most Christians will say that they're not bound by most of the restrictions in Leviticus, which are extensive, because Jesus forged a new compact with humanity, throwing out the old rules.

But I don't remember the part where he said it was still okay to persecute gays... but lobsters? Yummy!

It doesn't take a Christian to see there's something very broken and hypocritical in that chain of logic.

I agree with you that the larger issue at hand is not what your sexual preference is. The larger issue is whether or not you are willing to accept Jesus Christ as YOUR Savior or not. Once you do that, there are changes that the Holy Spirit is going to make in your heart and that will most likely include you wanting to live a moral life as defined by scripture. Hey, its happened to the worst of us. But it's always a good thing when He does it.

The reason why Christians are "freaked out by it" as you put it, is because we know it is a sinful practice from the definition of scripture, and we know historically that it has led to the downfall of nations past. We would prefer to keep this nation in tact. When people begin to insist on ungodly lifestyles that want to redefine the nature and core of our society, it is our "job" if you will to stand up and be counted for what is right.

We are "salt and light." That means we are essentially a preservation agent in society. Our presence in society "kills" the "bacteria" (sin) that wants to infect and pollute society. If you are trapped in homosexuality, I feel sorry for you, and I don't mean to demean you with my comments in any way, I assure you. The Lord loves you and has a better life for you when you are ready to accept it. He created the man and the woman to have certain functions and roles within family and society. When people cross the lines and step out of those roles, it causes confusion and disorder. An instability results throughout society as a whole, because it is no longer functioning the way it was designed. This is the truth that God's word teaches us of.

If you don't like these things, I am sorry that you feel that way. But you asked us why, and this is the correct answer.

Only some Christians have a problem. While they have the bandstand in recent history, most of the earth's people will plod onward, dragging them behind because they are human beings, and need to be helped along. Sometime, probably not in yours or my future, we will have a civilization that genuinely understands human nature with all of its complexities. Changes are inevitable, as sure as the sunrise and sunset nuture our earth; but it will take time and patience and a kind of certainty that this too will pass. So, get on with your life and don't worry so much about what other people think is wrong, even in their wrongness, we are as a people moving forward and that is how I deal with it.

I can't answer for Christians as I am not one. I have often wondered why some seem to have paranoia and hatred towards the gay community. I also wonder, (the ones that behave in such a fashion), do they even know anyone who is gay?
I do not understand the whole "sin" thing. From my understanding no one is exempt from "sin". Nor so I understand "I can love them and hate their lifestyle"...I didn't know hate was a Christian value.

Blessings )O(

EDIT: I have seen more "straight" people behave in a vulgar fashion publicly than gay people.

Because the liberal agenda is being shoved down our throats and we are sick of it... it has nothing to do with homosexuals but everything to do with the liberals trying to force everyone into their belief system...

why is it that Christianity can be publicly bashed and ridiculed but Christians can't have free speech about anything??

The prejudice is against Christians NOT homosexuals

I like your last question..."what are gay people destroying that has Christians so freaked out?" I can answer that on behalf of Christianity.....THEMSELVES. It is not as much as gays and lesbians as it is about sinners. Sin will destroy you, even sin you do not understand or perceive as sin. The acts homosexual commit are sinful. It is just as sinful as unmarried people having sex or men/women having sex outside of the marriage covenant.

We have great fear for those who defy God and continue to practice sin in His face. You cannot get around SIN. Whether it is a liar or a lesbian act, or a adulteress or an idolter...sin is sin, is sin. It separates you from God. God cannot, will not tolerate sin.

Regina,

When some heterosexuals kiss in public, it freaks my 4 year-old daughter out. I mean, some heterosexuals are disgusting about it! Get a room!

Why are SOME Christians hung up on this topic? I don't know. Jesus never mentioned it once, but he did stress the need to love all, forgive all.

Some Christians will say Jesus told us to hate sin. I am one Christian who is not going to hate anyone; I have faith that God's love can transform murderers, adulterers...even ignorant Christians! (forgive them Father, for they know not what they do)

peace

I see a lot of questions like this here, and none of them are being asked by Christians! Seems more to me that homosexuals are "hung up" on the Christian religion. Why? It isn't like we make up the doctrine as we go along. These teachings are thousands of years old.

Some people want to "throw out" Jewish and Christian doctrine, because it is "old" and "out of date". Funny, they don't want to do that with other things that are as ancient. Why not get rid of the Pythagorean theorem? That's just old. How about the Archimedian Screw? That ancient piece of engineering is a disgrace! Toss it out! Pyramids, bah humbug! Ancient medicine...phooey! Acupuncture....AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!!! Get those antique knitting needles away from me!!!

Just a little silliness to make the point. Personally, I think that many people, not just homosexuals, are "hung up" on Christian (and Jewish) doctrinal points because they are inconvienced by them. It is a form of spirituality that intrudes on us, and asks us to conform to something outside of "ourselves". That is very hard to do, and can seem foreign. It's kind of like a spiritual xenophobia: if it isn't "ME", then it must be "BAD".

Just my thoughts.
