Eating or drinking anything will affect you in some way but unless you do something really bad like smoke right before you sing and then cough a lot, it won't change the sound.
By eating or drinking most things (apart from room temperature water), you will produce phlem which will be irritable for you while singing and will make you want to clear your throat. Things to expecially avoid would be acidic fruits and fruit juices, dairy and carbonated drinks (like Coke).
The best thing to eat and drink for a number of hours before a big performance is just plain bread and room temperature water.

it can. the best thing to drink before singing is hot tea with lemon. coke is sugary and can cause your throat to dry out and feel like there is cotton or something coating the back of your throat! good luck singin!

Only if your epiglottis would fail to work! (This isn't common or you would have pneumonia from all your liquids getting into your lungs.) The drink cannot reach your vocal chords since the epiglottis closes to protect your airway.

first of all, why and where are you singing this! just kidding... stick to teas and non-carbonated drinks. also no dairy. i don't believe the soda will do anything vocally, but the carbon can upset your stomach and diaphram which won't let you breath properly to hold those notes. tea with honey is best!

Never heard of it but the gas in the pop is more a potential problem.
What's wrong with old fashioned H2O?

Yes I think it is related to the caffeine in the drink.

It could cause you to burp, but you'd probably sound better than Paris no matter what you do. LOL

Cold liquids stiffen your vocal cords... not to mention the carbonation and "gas" issues.
