You didn't say what type of dog but the best thing is to go to a site that has dog names.
http://www.5stardog.com/dog-names.asp
is a very good site lots of names A-Z to look through. We used it to help pick out names for our pups, Beasley, Bailey, Bella, Claire and Colby.
Happy name hunting

My favorite way to pick a pets name is to: Get some books and magazines, Randomly open to any page ,without looking plant your finger and see what is there. The first one may not be a winner ,but keep going your dogs name will find you. Keep in mind as a dog his name does not have to be Fido or Harry. A few of the coolest names I've known were chosen this way.Sprocket,Havoc and Torque. My dog is named Holli after Hollister Calif. chosen this way. Try it!

best way to come up with a name is to watch the dog see a trait or quality you like or even a mark or some other distinguishing characteristic and use that to get a name.
also make sure it something that you wont be embarrassed shouting out were others can hear.

we had a dog for 1 month that was already named Hugo. I loved that name, we also called him The Boss. I also like the name Charley and Kimber. They sound like loyal names. Try to skip out on the names Sasha and Maggie and Mollie---everyone in the world has dogs named that :)

Harley ,Bailey or Thor for a boy
Nala, Kohema or Fatima for a girl
It really matters on the dog and when you see it the name will come to you that fits the dog.
