We want to remodel a kitchen but do not want to remove the original Knotty Pine wall-covering. What color or species of wood would match (low budget) I dont want more Knotty Pine--want to market & sell to young/hip professionals I was thinking Red? or Dark? It is also a small kitchen.

Sometimes a nice contrast between two wood colors/types can turn out really well but it could also turn out hideous. I dont think I would go with anything red as the pine doesnt really have any red in it. Maybe look at the grain of the pine and match the darker color of that. Go with a similiar type of cabinet as well. If the china cabinet has a certain style to it try to stay close to that.

I'm not expert and to me they both look good, but for some reason I do prefer lacquer. As for what is best with knotty pine I'm not sure. We used lacquer with some knotty pine cabinets in a vacation house once. Looked great.

I live in a log cabin and trust me I have LOTS of pine...hunter green/ offwhite with a crackle finish and glass on the top/ sage green wash...I agree with the idea that you go to a kitchen type place although Home Cheapo and Lowes have big Kitchen areas...Yuppies want tech so be sure you have under counter lights and stainless steel appliances or appliances that match your cupboards...granite or solid surface countertops although concrete is nice too...

look for the nearest Kitchen Tune-Up company. they do great work and at a reasonable price. they can offer you more choices than you can get from many other cabinetry companies. they can bring samples for you to compare. they also have a certified kitchen/bath designer on staff that will work with you to get the result you are looking for.
