There is a thing called 'discernment', which means to be able to tell the difference between things. How to discern between music and tv that is compatible with Christian values or contradictory. You can tell the tree by its fruits, and Galations 5:16- says that the fruits of the Holy Spirit are love, peace, joy, self control, and I like music then that is joyful, peaceful, loving and that lifts me up,, same with tv or anything really.
Our brains and bodies are affected by our environments, and some things we can't choose and some things we can. We can choose our music and what is showing on our tv's. Why pick music and shows that have a lot of people being nasty and violent and animalistic in sex? It's a downer. After watching those or listening to that my nerves feel jangled, and I feel nervous. There is enough real stuff in my life making my nerves jangled, ya know?
It used to be, in the old days, that music was more positive generally, and today there is a lot of negative noise, so that it is really harder to find new music that sounds smooth and is about higher values,, so I tend to listen to oldies stations, and easy listening, and Christian music. There are a couple of stations here that play smooth new stuff in a blend with old stuff, but their playlist is sooo limited and repetitive.
I'm going to plug a yahoo thing here,,, I really like Yahoo's Launchcast radio,, there is a large variety of genres that can be played. I also recommend that you surf your radio dial and listen for stuff that is relaxing, encouraging, upbuilding. And, well, there is some good tv shows on, but I don't even have mine hooked up any more.

individually, I fee evaluations that are subsidized up by utilising some standards. First could be information. that's what i seek for as quickly as I ask questions right here on Yahoo. What are the information? OR, is it basically an opinion it is ideally placed down in writing. 2d, i seek for motive. Is the opinion out of project; is it out of Godly principled love? If no longer then i do no longer pay plenty interest to it. 0.33, is it logical? If it does not ring actual to me, I question its fee. Fourth, Does it go alongside with my Bible experienced judgment of right and incorrect? it is the actual fee. If it stands as much as those 4 factors (and that i'm advantageous there are extra yet that's what's coming to strategies), then that's an rather valued opinion. The Zeb ;)

This is a hard question to answer. I think it's up to the individual person.
I know I probably sound like a cop-out, but I've listened to just a little too much lecturing, generalizing, and quarreling over what type of music people should listen to, what type of movies we should see, etc. I just don't comment on that stuff anymore.

I try to be careful about what I listen to, especially in front of my kids. If the lyrics promote crap, then we can talk about it. I try to listen to positive stuff, though. It's like a mental version of "you are what you eat": garbage in, garbage out.
I'm not really up on who sings what, so I can't answer the "what bands" question. Sorry!
I can't understand heavy metal or thrash at all. A lot of the new "downer" bluesy music is incomprehensible to me. Must be I'm too old! If I can't understand it, I'm not going to bother listening.
TV is harder...there is soooo little worth watching on now. I catch the news now and again, and I like to watch practical "how to" shows. I really like "Stargate SG1", but don't agree with everything the characters do. My absolute favorite show, though, is "Extreme Makeover, Home Edition". It always makes me cry!

I am a christian and I enjoy a lot of different music. My favorite music is music from the 50's, 60's and 70's. ( My secret wish is to have been at woodstock) I'm a weird one. I also like to watch horror movies. I don't let things get to me. I have a good grasp on reality and for me reality is God. Above all no matter what the things are that I enjoy on earth, God will always be number one. I don't think that there is a problem with enjoying the things that we do here on earth ( like a good Stephen King novel) as long as it is not outright sins. ( like pornography). I hope that this answer gave you a different perspective.

whoa whoa hold up a minute here.
Christianity is not about a set of rules like your parents would give you. It's not a rule book what don't and dos.... anybody can listen to anything i mean it doesnt have to be good... I am christian and i still listen to the odd good charlotte song and such. It's what you think is a approate(ya i know bad spelling)...
You can listen to what ever you want to as long as it doesn't "make fun of" god. I also listen to other things like comideans making fun of christian and stuff and i laugh cuz of some of there stuff is funny. I mean it's however you take it...
You can't be a real christian if you just want the do's and don't of life... part of life is figuring them out for yourself.

Cartman what does listening to music have to do with being a Christian, music is according to your taste in it, personally I like pretty well all types of music except for rap, grrr, no beat or always the same beat, and can't understand half of the artists, didn't like disco either but had some great dancing songs there, you choose what you watch, eat, has nothing to do with christianity. Christian means you believe in Jesus' way of life, you know be at peace with yourself because you know you would never steal, kill, you try to treat everyone with love and compassion, forgive those who persecute you and pray that they will come to see the error of their ways, don't judge or be critical, just forgive and pray because they don't understand and have lost their way.

That's up to you. Being Christian shouldn't be about doing what other people think you should do. That's how people get into being hypocrits. They go around saying not to do all this stuff, but they do it themselves. That's where the Christians went wrong over the last couple of years. well longer than that. If you think something doesn't have a good message, don't listen to it or watch it.

music is a form of art and expression, not a form of religion...
sorry to burst your bubble but anytime any artist has anything to say you should at least listen, whether it's good or bad. Open the mind.
and TV? are you serious? TV is fiction-land. You should watch it for pure entertainment as that is what it is designed for. TV in no way should be associated with religion.
