Don't torture yourself by trying to sleep when you can't, if you are not sleepy get up out of bed, anywhere else in the house (because you want to associate your bed with sleep), watch t.v., read, draw, or listen to music (Jimmy Buffet is excellent for relaxation). Don't worry about wasting time cuz if you can't sleep it doesn't matter anyway. Excercise isn't that good for making you sleepy, it kind of energizes you, so try to do something relaxing. Also try a turkey sandwich if you haven't already, the tryptophan makes you sleepy. If all else fails, try to let sleep come to you, and let go of your worries.

I try to eat at least 5 hours before I go to bed, then I say a prayer and turn everything over to God to take care of and think of something soothing and I go right to sleep. If I am having a hard time going to sleep I pretend someone gave me about $10,000 to spend right away and I start shopping with my eyes shut and it works for me!! good luck

my daughter has a terrible time getting to sleep and the doctor recommended giving her melatonin. this is a vitamin and is completely natural. it can be bought in any pharmacy. i have to say i was alittle skeptical at first because my daughter is only 8 years old, but i have to say it works. well, at least for her...the dosage is 3mg about an hour before bedtime. best of luck! oh, i also bought her one of those dream radio/clocks that make several soothing sounds...the ocean, rain, wind etc.she loves it.

I like the stuff you can get from Bath and Body Works in their aromatherapy line. They sell a sleep formula scent that includes vanilla and lavender. It has a purple label. You can get linen spray, bubble bath, lotion, candles, etc... The scent helps trigger the brain that it is time for sleep and it works well. Good luck.

They say you should read a book, or watch tv, or meditate. Or listen to some soft music. Also try putting a mask on your face to keep the light, and turn off all sounding things. Goof luck!!!

Don't use your computer screen -before you go to bed- the light from the screen fools your mind into thinking it is still daytime. Read a book instead.
