Is it a tip jar on the counter? If all they do is pour you a cup of coffee I think 25 cents to the jar is enough. If you feel cheap doing that then at 2.30 for your total bill give the 70 cents left from paying with three dollars.

I am not sure that we need to tip people for counter service of that sort, except of course in case where you know the staff, and they treat you nicely.. sometimes I feel a little awkward if I tip only a couple of dimes or quarters, however if that's to what a 15-20% tip amounts, I guess that will have to do as tip

If I'm placing my order and then waiting for it at the counter I don't give a tip. I only give a tip when I'm sitting at a table and someone comes and takes my order and then brings it to me, then I give anywhere between 15% and 20%.
If I'm entertaining a large party, then I give a much bigger tip all the way up to 40%.

excuse me..are they waiting on you...no do you tip at mcdonalds...no..every person with a job now thinks they can ask for tips..lets this straight..tipping is for cows..and for waiters...that serve you...personally..with great attitude...i mean if you do find that your coffee will require extra special care and that you will get it pured into your mouth at the tempeture you most like..then i think i little tip is at hand..but if you are buying a 4 bucks picker up...you really do not need to tip this arrogant...pricks..i think starbucks should be more careful than that..and i think they should..in the suave image..place a collection for some save the tree foundation rather than the weed foundation for the local starbucks worker...tip non...

this whole tipping thing is getting out of control!!!!! why would you even consider tipping at Starbuck's when their drinks cost so much to begin with. i'm a nurse and wouldn't accept a tip 'cause I put a dressing on your burn (from the too hot coffee).

you're paying anywhere from $2-5 for your coffee drink. they make well over $8 an hour and even if they work PT they are eligible for benefits. i don't tip b/c i'm paying for overpriced coffee as it is.
...at restaurants i'm a usual 20%er...

50 cents is fine, it's better than nothing, and it all adds up by the end of the day .

you tip them? its their job. DO YOU TIP A BOOKSTORE CLERK? its not like they bring it out to your table. NO. you stand at the counter and wait. tipping is for people who DO something. not stand behind a counter and fix up drinks.
