Thanks for asking this question. I swallowed my first Lexapro pill this morning after being prescribed them. I have high hopes for it. I was very attentive to any changes in my behavior or health, but there was none really. But like they said, it will take several weeks to see results. The only thing that worries me is that your not supposed to drink with them. I will miss my red stripes :(

I have been using Lexapro for @ 5 months now. I have no complaints. I am not crying all the time. Try it and see if it helps if not go back to your doctor and tell him/her. Sometimes it takes several trys to find one that works for you. Lexapro was the first and last for me, I hope it will be for you too. It didn't take long to for me to tell the difference in how I was feeling. Good luck!!

Lexapro, like Zoloft and Prozac, are SSRIs, or Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors. All are often effective. Lexapro's main benefit is that most users experience fewer and less extreme side effects than with the others. Zoloft may be just beind it regarding side-effects.

I don't mean to conflict with your doctor's advice, but have you tried natural therapies? I know that many doctors simply go over a check list of symptoms, and say, take this, or take that, handing you a prescription slip.
Not only are some pills addicting, they can also damage the liver. Natural therapy, such as getting more sun, listening to soothing music, certain minerals and herbs, etc... can be just as beneficial, yet companies cannot make money off of these resources.
And if you take ANY medication, read ALL of the side effects, precautions, etc.

I am on Lexapro and have been for about two years. I will be truthful everyone is different what works for one person may not work for another. I have had great success with it and it has been the only anti-depressant that has worked really well. I hope it works for you as well as is has for me. Good Luck

Lexapro was great for me, but when I moved they didnt have it. The only problem I had with it was when I first started taking it I became an insomniac, and no sex drive. The insomnia went away after a bit, but for the sex drive he perscribed me Wellbutrin. They seem to work well with eachother.

I have been taking lexapro for 2 years and it has done wonders for me! It has completely stopped my symptoms when no other med had and it's side effects are much less than that of other meds. Also it isn't addictive. Highly recommend it!
