When the thoughts pop into your head, you need to just keep reminding yourself of the obvious (and TRUE) facts in your head: You actually DONT have a bad illness. (really, you dont) It's JUST anxiety that is causing these feelings. (a thought pattern) You've never actually fainted! (and you wont) The VAST majority of panic attacks related to "a feeling of fainting" never result in actual fainting. When it starts to happen, DISMISS the thoughts as unimportant (because they are) and focus on the people around you -- on anything. Realize that, even when you are feeling "uncomfortable" with these thoughts, you can still make logical decisions and DO whatever it is that you need to do. The actual attacks only last about a minute. You could actually have one and nobody will even notice. You need to go to a doctor or psychiatrist and see if you can try a drug called Xanax, if you havent already. These things come and go in waves.. it won't always be this bad and consistent. It will ease up when your entire body/mind gets into a more relaxed state. Stay busy with other things.. get good exercise.. and when the thoughts enter, remind yourself that they are UNIMPORTANT and nonthreatening. You will slowly learn to not react to the thoughts, so they will not spiral, the way you are letting them do now. But this will take time.

Paxil and ativan together have worked wonders for me. Before I took them I did NOT want to go on medication so I suffered for a LONG time. I would be tortchured by those feelings of anxiety everyday. I would watch the clock and wait for my boyfriend to come home from work. Sometimes I would get panic attacks and call him and ask him if he could leave work and come home. Or sometimes they would be so bad I would think I may have to call 9-1-1 because the feeling was too overwhelming! Talk to your doctor and ask about paxil and ativan. start on half of the regular starting dose to avoid side effects then gradually increase. I am sensitive to meds so thats what I did and it wasnt bad. My doc gave me permission to start out that way because I told him I felt comfortable starting on a low dose and that if I couldnt I wouldnt take it. He just wanted me to take it so he agreed with no prob.

It doesn't sound like you're having panic attacks, but severe anxiety attacks. You need to talk to someone. Do not go to a psychiatrist, they'll make you feel crazy.I would suggest a psychologist, mental health counselor, clergyman, and there's always crisis hot lines, someone will talk to you. You need to change your focus, get your mind off of everyday things, which are real, but you're becoming obsessed. I know how you feel, I'm older than you, but I have and am still going through the same things.I have learned to hyper-focus, that is, getting your mind completely off your problems and do something you love. It will almost hypnotize you,i.e. reading, gardening, using the computer, needlework, anything.Hope you feel better soon!!!

I have read some litterature about panic attacks. But they allways seem to have a more scientific approach and that is nothing I need in my struggle to survive those horrible panic attacks. This is a "hand on" and very practical book. I felt it was written to me. I am sure that you are going to feel the same.
Joe Barry writes exactly how I think. The examples are perfectly described. And the method is genius. I recommend this book and thanks Joe Barry for writing it. It changes your life

I would say that you are having panic attacks. Have you thought about talking to your parents about how you have been feeling? You should tell them so that they can take you to a Psychologist to talk to. If you are truly having panic attacks and I know how you feel because I have them too you may need to see a Psychiatrist for help and maybe some meds. Do yourself a favor talk to your parents. If you feel that you can't talk to them go to your school counselor and talk to them that is what they are there for. Good Luck

Sounds like you should have a talk with your mom/dad or maybe your doctor...Some worrying is normal, but not much. There is always counseling before you try meds..They can teach you relaxation techniques and how to work through your anxiety. Good luck hun.

fear is normal but panic attacks can be treated ... but you may be in the grip of a more detrimental mental disorder ... such as major depression ...
