Show that you take your work, and the teacher's help, seriously. Turn in homework when due. Be attentive in class - don't fall asleep or gossip, and look directly at the teacher when s/he is speaking. If you are researching a term paper, ask questions about your topic and where to go for sources - even if you have to do this before or after school. Discuss the project as it develops. The good teachers will appreciate this. (If you have one of those teachers who is just putting in time for a paycheck and waiting for retirement, well .... ) But, most teachers believe strongly in what they do and in their students. Discuss your own personal problems with the teacher and look for advice. Again, that's outside class. But .... don't invent fake problems just to get close to the teacher. S/he will see right through you!

Do your work on time and correctly, be on time for class, and behave. Smile during class and look like you're paying attention. Maybe explain to the teacher after class one day that you're shy and don't like to talk much in class, but that you're paying attention and enjoying it. A Christmas card is always nice, too.

just start saying like "hi" or "what's up" to them. Teachers always love when kids are laid back, friendly, but alert. It's always worked for me. : )

Start talking. Just raise your hand and try to answer as many questions as you can and ask questions...
