The United States has over 250,000 rivers. I don't know about the whole world.

I think this would depend on what day and month and possibly even time of day you would be asking that. Some rivers exist only for a certain period of time. And like the other guy said about how to define a river, that does affect it as well - like the LA river, would you really call it a river?

Impossible to answer. No one has ever counted them all and how do you define a river? Here what we define as a river may de called a creek over there.
God is the only one I know who truely knows the answer to this question.
The answer would be in the 100,000's though.

a lot. probably that the number is changing everyday as new rivers are carved out and old ones dry up.
Or are you talking about major rivers? Amazon, Nile, Mississippi, Indus, Yellow or Huang He, Rhine atleast those are the major ones i know of that actually supported civilizations.

I think you would first have to precisely define river as apposed to a stream or creek. Even so, I think you would find that they are too numerous to count.
