.No you need a DVD RW to use it on more than one occasion.
Also you can record a program onto a CD R or RW as well but only once on the CDR you need a CDRW to rewrite on it.

You can add recordings to DVD-R as long as it isn't finalized. But you can only play them on the recorder, not on a DVD player. All the recordings will remain on the disc. If you want to get ride of the earlier recording when you add one, you must use DVD-RW.

A dvd r would work in a computer. As long as you don't close the disc or finalize the disc.
You need to post more info in your question. What type of equipment are you using?
You can usually find manuals for you DVR equipment on-line if you don't have your original. Just type in your model and 'manual' in a search.
Good Luck!

I CANNOT BELIEVE 9 PEOPLE FELT THE NEED TO ANSWER A QUESTION THEY DONT KNOW THE ANSWER TO. WHAT THE HELL IS THE POINT. ONLY KEVIN THE GENT HAS CORRECTLY RESPONDED HERE. USE THE DISC ON A MULTI SESSION WITH NERO FOR EXAMPLE. AND THEN YOU CAN ADD TO IT LATER. REMEMBER WHAT HE SAID ABOUT ONLY DOING IT 3 TIMES. WHAT YOU REALLY WANT TO DO IF YOU THINK ABOUT IT IS USE A RW UNTIL YOU HAVE WHAT YOU NEED THEN BURN ACCROSS TO A FINALIZED DVDR WHEN YOU ARE READY THEN YOU CAN ERASE IT ALL FROM YER RW FOR ANOTHER DAY AND HAVE YOUR SERIES ON ONE DISC. WHY DONT PEOPLE ANSWER TO WHAT THEY KNOW INSTEAD OF PROCLAIMING TO BE CLEVER GETS ON MY WICK ON HERE. HOW MUCH MONEY DO PEOPLE WASTE THANKS TO KNOBBY ANSWERS LIKE YOU HAVE RECEIVED IS PROBABLY LUDICROUS.

yes you can burn a session on to a dvdr just as you can to a cdr
a second session can be added and a third
but the disc must be finalized on the third session. if not you might find you can not read the first lot of data
