You just can't help being who you are. I think that gay people were born gay. There's just so much evidence to support this. This isn't something having to do with sexual depravity, because many gay people know that they are from a very young age.

Now, what they do with it is a personal choice.

I know some people that knew that they were gay, had a supportive and nurturing family, and made the decision to go ahead and do what feels natural to them.

I know some people that knew that they were gay at an early age and had an overly religious family that made them feel like being gay was unnatural and a sin to be ashamed of. Some of these people chose to "pretend" they were straight, got married, had children and were completely miserable for their whole lives.

In fact my husband's uncle did this and ended up leaving his wife after the kids were out of college and his parents were dead, so that he could live his life the way it felt right for him. He died a happy man!

So, I belive that you are born this way, but your life is a personal choice....to be happy with who you are....or to be ashamed and barely live your life.

Gay people are born that way. If we knew why, perhaps we wouldn't be so judgemental - but we don't know why. We do know through recent medical research that the brains of gay people are different. That sort of research was impossible until very recently - we just did not have the requisite tools, such as fMRI (functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging) to enable us to peer deep into the brain and map out those differences.
The question of further research is complicated. For instance, why do we want to know the reason some people are born gay? Is it so that we can "cure" them or try to alter whatever prenatal factor(s) are involved so that no more gay people are born? Do we have the right to engage in genetic engineering - which is what that would be? Do we merely want to identify fetuses that will be born gay so that they may be aborted? My, but we have a LOT of heavy thinking to do on this topic, don't we?

- No one really chooses it consciously. You don't wake up one day & say, "I think I'll be gay today." Did you choose to be straight, or were you born that way? See what I mean? I did choose to be bisexual. I always thought women were attractive so one day I just went for it. I had been hurt by a lot of men & I figured I had nothing left to lose. So, yes, I made that choice. But I would say that true gay persons are born that way. There of course are exceptions to every rule. Some little boys are raped & become gay. There can be environmental factors that cause fear and/or bad decision making. Those people can be confused & afraid & make a decision based on that.

Hi Toni M
It is a choice. Do have GERALD S. M to give to you this so called scientific studies to prove/support it. He's as queer as a three dollar bill. Our lives are govern by the choices which we make....... It is your choice to smoke. Are smokers born? Is it a choice? Those that drink strong drink? Are they born to consume strong drink? Is it a choice? Are rapist born to rape? Is it a choice? Murderers. Are they born to murder? Is it a choice?
Was Bush born to become President? Was it a choice? I don't know your beliefs about God, and don't care. God said that no gay ( Queer ) will enter into the Kingdom of God. Rather they will be cast into the same lake of fire as all sinners. Would a loving God allow a person to be born gay, so that He can have that person thrown into a lake of fire????? It is a teenagers choice to remain with his or her parents until they can provide for themselves. However thousands choose to run away each year. Their choice. Were you born to listen to a certain type of music? Perhaps you make a choice to listen to the music which you enjoy. Yesterday a 14 year old girl in Tulsa, Oklahoma choose to drive her mothers car. She ran over and killed a 12 year old boy. Remember, your life is controled by the choices which you make.

Do have a great day, and for your own benifit and good health, try to make the correct choices.

Not only do I "FEEL" people are born GAY but their are a number of scientific studies to prove/support it. On the other hand there are those that do make it a personal choice just as there are so called "GAY" people who make it a personal choice not to live in that lifestyle.
At the beginning of life "conception" we are one gender, "FEMALE". Then as we develop the amount of or hormonal balance determines if we are male or female.
Do to many factors we are all potentially gay to different degrees. How we act on it depends a lot on hormones, social experiences, emotional traumas as well as conditioning.
I have seen a number of documentary studies where they have found that a certain part of the brain in "Gay" people is a different size than that of Heterosexual people.
There is much more that I could say but check out National Institution of Health (NIH) web sites as well as Discovery sites on the subject.
Lastly, think about this. Who do you think would consciously decide/choose to live a gay life style and subject themselves to societal negativism and potential physical harm?

Although I am straight, I believe that a person is born gay. For one thing, why would a person CHOOSE to put themselves in a situation where they will be discriminated against and ostracized by a good bit of society? For another thing, most people I've talked to that are gay say that they knew from the time they were small children.

I dont think people are born gay... but rather unconcsiously know they are.... just like people know they believe in god... or that god exists. Believing in god for people isn't a choice.... its a fact for them.

There was a study done recently (i can't name it...sorry), that concluded that for each older brother a guy has.... his chances of being gay...increase! This clearly implies that being homosexual has a large part to do with environment. If i remember correctly... and i might be wrong...it said the increase is 9% for every older brother a guy has. 9%!! If you're raised in a larger family..and happen to have 5 older brothers.... then you are statistically @ 45% chance for being gay! While I dont necessarily buy into this theory.... although i did find it intriguing... it is food for thought.

These are my thoughts: We all have different tastes... I happen to be a VERY picky eater (as much as I try not to be), and I can't seem to change it. i would LOVE to eat veggies and feel good about it...but i just can't. Do you think its really a choice? Let me tell you its not. I actually gag when eating a lot of veggies!

I think being gay...might be comparable. You can't choose what you like.... or enjoy... you simply do. You can try other options all you want..but simply acting heterosexual doesn't make you heterosexual. Just like.... forcing myself to eat veggies...doesn't lift the "picky eater" label that i have... bottom line..i still hate that food.

i am a christian and know that i am not supposed to answer that they are born that way, but don't believe that when i see the high number of kids that kill themselves every year because they KNOW that they are gay and don't want to be and can't live with it. i am also friends with a guy that i have grown up with since 1st grade and grew up christian and is christian but is gay as much as he tried to fight it. i thank God that he admitted it and was accepted instead of becoming part of the suicide ratio, i know too many great people that are gay and they all say they were born that way, not a choice. my hubby is the most redneck/like thinking person i know and his bro is gay. his bro is also much bigger hearted and a higher quality person than my own hubby.....who cares what your sexuality is?? what kind of person are you??? yep, i think not all, but most are born that way. God bless!

I think people are born gay. Do you really think that people like getting beat up because of their lifestyles. They are born that way, they wish they could be normal, but they can't. That's why they stay in the closet, and try to blend in and be straight.

It is a personal choice that people make it has nothing to with being born with it. Alot of people have been molested when they were younger and this is the one outcome of being confused.
