Yes, there should be a Human Services Department where you can get food stamps and a monetary amount to help you each month; often there is also a listing of services available to you also. The Housing Authority has two waiting lists: one for project housing (short list) and one for section 8 (long list). You can apply for both lists at the same time. If need be, take your papers to an attorney to assist you in getting SSDI right away. You may have to appeal, but that is par for the course these days. Don't despair, or give up. It will well be worth it!!! Also, you may want to get a social worker to help you through this time. Perhaps your psychiatrist can recommend one for you. Things will improve and I know how difficult it is when you are in transition and ill. I had to start my life all over again in 2004, and I was ill and in need of housing also. Keep the faith. God bless.

call the star of hope. i stayed there back when i was first diagnosed with HCV in 1995. they have two shelters, however, you will need the long term family care. you will probably have to stay short term at another shelter first. there is a good one in pasadena "The Bridge". It's a little run down, but they might also help you get an apartment since your disabled. That is how section 8 works.

Meantime, contact me "Heppystephy@yahoo.com" ...sounds like you need a hand....and I've been there.

(i think we've spoke before via yahoo answers)

hugs

Contact the local department of human services. Maybe they can help with some money and food, esp if your daughter is a minor, and suggest where some low-income housing is in your area. Some communities also have an agency to assist you with your electric bill. It's called "LIHEAP".Also, try some charities, like Catholic Charities or some of the local churches. I hope someone can help you... God bless.

I would suggest calling or visiting your local WIC office. They have lists of all the agencies in your local area, even some that are publically listed.

please try the section 8 office in houston or the housing authority, go to the office of family support and services and they should be able to help you. I hope this helps you...I have a friend who lives in Houston and maybe I can get some info from her about where these services are, if you need more help, please email me at jade_oldman@yahoo.com.
