This tradition is prevalent in some communities in India, specially in the South. The tradition started to ensure that the family property is not dissipated. The effects of this have know been felt as marrying in the same gene pool has its disadvantages. Think before u get married.

I understand this is a custom in some parts of southern India. Personally, I find the idea of marrying my uncle disgusting, but as for you: Do you love her in that way? Does she want to marry you? Is this something you both really want or something your family is pushing you into? If you both want it, I guess its up to you. If she or you doesn't want it, then be a man and stand up to your family and say NO, but be sure to do it in a way that won't keep her from being able to have a more appropriate marriage.

In Kentucky, it's encouraged.
In West Virginia, it's encouraged AND they recommend you marry your sister, too, so you don't split up the family.
