First, a little background. I am a better-than-average tenor who has sung solos in most churches I've ever attended. I was on scholarship in my college choir, and I've performed in front of groups ranging from 20 to 2,000. Last summer I joined a new church and plugged into the choir. I auditioned for the then-director, who told me I had a good voice, and that he was interested in using me. Within a few weeks, I was an alternate on the worship team, but that didn't last long. This summer, he took a job with a college, and our new director seems to be a nice guy. I auditioned for him, and again was told I have a good voice. However, he stopped short of telling me that I have solo quality.

At the same time, we have about six different people who sing solos. Rarely, if ever, do we rotate outside that core group. And I know that I'm good enough to sing solos, but I'm never given the chance.

The question -- stick it out, or find something else to do.

Hi Brother, I think you should pray about it . Ask God to make known to you what you should do about the situation. Stick it out for now though, you may miss Gods plan for your life. Blessings to you.

If your true intention is to be part of a choir, stay with the choir.

But if all you want to do is sing solo at different churches, that's not what singing in a church is about (even though many people do). Also if you're new, it takes time to work up the ladder and build relationships and trust with the choir and director. If you like the choir people, just stick with and see what happens. Christmas, Easter roll around each year:)

You could also quit and just do solo performances, but if you want to do it as a part of a choir, ask those doing the solos how they got their, their advice, tips, experience.

Try it out, if you don't let it, you can always go back.

Start to record some of your singings on tape or any medium, and also try out for audition.

I know you will need to get a sponsor or someone who can produce for you. You need to get hook up with such a connection and get attention (market and advertise your talent, show it off), but how to do that, I don't know.

I want to go into show business too. I like singing and dancing.

By the way, you can always start out in the theaters (such as Broadway) or depends on what style of music you sing, a big band or jazz club.

There is no business like show business. You don't shine if you don't show. Be a star!

If you don't tell people about your success or talent, nobody else will.

Hi there,
i think the first question you have to ask yourself is whether you enjoy singin in a choir? if you do, i think you know the answer. however, if your answer is no then its time to move on. but really i personally think you should talk to the director and ask whether is he plannin to grant you a chance to sing solo and remember not ever solo suit everyone and maybe he is plannin to give you a chance to sing solo but its just not the right time.
have a talk with your director and let him know that you are keen to sing solo and willing to try. cheers and have a good chat with your director.

why are you singing in the first place? are you doing it to please people, or yourself, or God... if it's for any other reason than to please God then you are doing it for the wrong reason.
sounds like you have "pride" issues that God might be trying to bring to your attention. I have heard people who couldn't carry a tune in a bucket, yet when they sang you could feel WHO they were "really" singing to.. and it would give you chills. skill isn't everything when it comes to serving God.. sometimes it's humility.
in no way am I trying to offend you, but asking you to take a look at what you have written and examine your actions before getting mad and leaving church.

Most people go through life hoping they will never be called upon to speak in public.
Most singers go through life afraid they won't be called upon to sing in public.
If you are young, you have lots of time ahead of you. If you are old, you will eventually turn into a baritone.

CAPNPEN!!
you need to keep your focus on God, and when God lays it on the heart of the director to call on you, then He will.

Quit trying so hard.

That's EXACTLY what satan wants you to do. Hold on there and just see when God is going to use you in a mighty way!
