Make sure their wings are clipped. Set aside some one on one time each day to socialize with the bird, giving it special treats. Doves are relatively shy birds, and do not react to people as parrots do but with a little work you can have them eating out of the palm of your hand (no pun intended).

By letting me send Larry the damn dove to you, He won't leave me alone, He beats up my dogs and Hawk like tries to slam his talons into any one who dare enter my bedroom!!!
Then he tries to coo his way into my slippers...Don't ask! Just take him!

Buy them turtleneck sweaters. This makes them very happy and tame.
