Anything they can do you can do yourself. They charge alot of money are not very successsful, and often when they do manage to get something off down the road if it is later proven that it actually does belong there it goes right back on. The FTC has a warning about these kind of companies. See http://creditwisdom.blogspot.com/2006/09/deal-on-credit-counseling-repair-and_15.html

I would stick to disputing it yourself, since I have had many friends who have been screwed out of 500 bucks by credit repair companies. They do the same thing as far as disputing the debts but the only difference is that they have pre-made forms. I have seen books that contain pre made forms to dispute if you dont feel comfortable with typing the reports yourself.

I don't know about the companies, but they have got to be better than disputing it yourself. I disputed my report online and they said the charges still stood and were legit. Didn't matter that I wasn't even 18 when my credit got all screwed up, because they even have the wrong year of birth for me.
So it's gotta be at least a little more effective. Good luck. =)

Whatever company you plan to go with, check them out on the Better Business Bureau website www.bbb.org. I tried to consolidate some debts once. The first company I went with seemed okay online, but when I called them, they really rushed me through the process & didn't give me time to think things through. They really scammed me! :( If you can find a company that's non-profit, so that route. The non-profit group I worked with was great!
Also, you might try www.clarkhoward.com. Clark Howard seems extremely knowledgable about financial matters on his radio show. There is probably an email address on the site, if you'd want to get his opinion.

Those companies do not do anything you can't do yourself. Just take the time to dispute the information yourself.
