You have plenty of opinions based on user experience so let me offer you something from the other side of the fence...
As a software and web programmer I would say go with a PC. Whenever I release something new, 99% of the bugs are reported by MAC users. (And that is even after testing has been done.)
Just something to think about.

A computer that crashes twenty times in one hour? That's a PC, my friend, not a Macintosh. I own a Mac Mini, two actually. My newest one is is the higher end Core Duo and it completely rocks. If you're worried about compatibility, don't. Any Intel Macintosh can run Windows and run it better than most PCs. Even though you can run Windows, you'll find yourself spending more time using Mac OS X. It's true, no recording software for PCs can compare to Garageband, Logic Express and Logic Pro. Listening to music is a much more enjoyable on a Macintosh. You'll love iTunes 7 with CoverFlow. Why stick to PCs when you can have a beautiful machine that can do both? I've been a Mac user for nearly two years now, and I have YET to see a virus. Crash? Never. Spyware? What the hell is spyware? I mean.... this isn't a hard choice at all. :-) How is that woman going to blame the Mac for her buggy software? How dumb. Don't let that other guy scare you either, installing BootCamp is not hard at all. You'll be dual booting with Windows in no time. If you happen to get an iMac or MacBook Pro, it will run high end games like a dream.

If you are recording music get a mac. Nothing on PC's complares to GarageBand, which is FREE on a mac. Internet, IMing, online videos, all work great on a mac. All the criticisms I have seen on here about macs are moronic and untrue.

If you play big hitter games like Doom 3 or even GTA 3 then Macs are out of the question, you don't strike me as technical enough to force a Mac into a PC simulator (or Bootcamp for that matter).
But even the above question receives an answer in favour of Macs, I'm still against getting a Mac. All that Macs can do that counts for something of value in your intended use PCs do it better.

in case you want to get a Mac, anticipate to spend a minimum of $1000 more effective than for a abode windows laptop that has better hardware (not inevitably better outfitted, regardless of the reality that). certain, you will get MS place of work (word, Excel, skill element, and so on.) for Mac, yet in case you want to apply the different courses that are abode windows in basic terms (fairly video games, AutoCAD, and others), then you actually ought to position in abode windows on your Mac (extra $$$ except you've an turn on-in a position abode windows disk) and then boot into abode windows to run them. so that then you definately have a abode windows laptop that value a minimum of $1100 more effective than the different abode windows laptop obtainable.

If you've used windows before and that's what you know I'd stick to windows. The mac interface drives me crazy, I don't know why, but I just don't like it. But if your willing to learn how to use a computer all over again then maybe you do want a mac (I'd never get one, but I hear they are good for music editing).

Mac computers are typically more for the grapic designers.
I personally would stick with a windows PC, and go with a hp computer. They have the best tech support their is. So if you do decided to stick with a windows model, just don't get a dell their tech support bites, had nothing but problems with their tech support.
I'm able to burn music and download stuff with no problem, my ipod works awasome with my hp computer.

My dad has a G5. I find it difficult to use in that in Windows, you are asked everytime if you want to do something. On a mac, it seems that it assumes you are doing to do this, that or the other and it does it for you. I don't like that; I like to tell a stupid machine what to do next-- not have it tell me. Windows applications are far more widespread and available than those for the mac, so choose wisely.
