It's called hijab, or burqa. It isnt a turban, it's a scarf, or in the case of burqa, it can be an entire long one piece garment that covers the entire body from head to toe, leaving only slits for the eyes.
Moslem is the older spelling, and though it isn't incorrect, the newer spelling is Muslim. A female muslim is a muslimah.

1. It's not a turban, turbans are hair coverings for Sieks, not Muslims.

2. The female head dress for Muslim women is called a Hijab. It is not something that is "forced" upon women (fyi) rather out of respect, because women are held so highly in the (true) Islamic teachings, it is highly recommended that they dress modestly.

There is an entire Book in the Quran entitled, "women" that discusses womens rights, ect.....Did you know that Muhammad was a feminist?

Awesome isn't it?!?!

btw, just so you know this isn't biased, I'm a Christian.

It's not a turban, it's a scarf or other cover for the hair. And it's called "hijab".

Scarves aren't always a Muslim thing, of course. My wife shaves her head; she wears "hijab" when it's cold. :-) And I wear "hijab" when my highlights are messed up!

I have seriously seen Muslim girls use baseball caps, cowboy hats, Lilly Pulitzer scarves, Survivor buffs, and biker bandannas as hijab.

I've not seen a Muslim woman wear a turban. . . .

I've seen some African women wear turbans, but I do not know their religious beliefs.

If you are referring to the scarf that Muslim women wear, in English, its called a scarf. The entire modest clothing is called hijab.

well its a scarf just like the women wearing in church, jewish temples, hindu temples and sikh gurudhwaras. never seen Mother Mary at church? how does she look? i remember her wearing a head scarf all the time, dont u? the same applies to every woman who wears a hijab. why do u think women like Miriam, Mary, Mary Magdalene Ruth and Esther covered themselves? and whom do u think they were pleasing? -- man? no, it was for God and the reason was MODESTY/

positive things..............
1. equality among all women
2. keeps virtues like pride and arrogance in control
3. modesty
4. keeps u away from perverts naturally -- so works better than pepper sprays
5. no more worrying about tanning and harmful UV
6. no more -- 'mean girl syndrome'
7. protects ur hair and its lustre from pollution and UV
8. since u are less prone to UV exposure lesser probability of cancer and anything associated with radiation.
9. men look at a women for their inntellectuality rather than physical appearence.
10. dont have to worry about physical appearence and no more -- tummy tucks and body reconstruction just to keep men happy.

when u look at a bunch of women wearing Hijab or MEN WITH BEARD AND CAPS and sometimes those LONG ROBES AND middle-eastern type of CLOTHES (-- equivalent to hijab of a woman), then to most people the first word that comes to their mind will be --OPRESSION. but look at them carefully.

can u tell me among them -- who is rich or from a wealthy class. no they all will look EQUAL. irrespective of men/women, rich/poor, young/old -- they all look equal. this is a way to keep virtues like -- pride and arrogance -- in control and to overcome them. it all comes down to one basic fact --SIMPLICITY.

and let me tell u that HIJAB is NOT COMPULSORY IN ISLAM. ALLAH says in His Qu'ran -- be modest and gaurd ur privates and ur body from those not meant for u. the actual concept of hijab came much later with changing winds. and let me tell u -- not all women cover themselves with a black peice of cloth from head to toe. some only cover their heads, some cover everything except face and hands while others cover everything.
