How come no one catches and repremands journalists for stating opinion as fact...
WASHINGTON - Religious conservative leaders, sensing declining alarm over same-sex marriage, are warning that the debate over homosexuality has prompted attacks on religious freedom.

i'm kind of a hybrid. i'm sort of like a more liberal Christian. for example, i'm quid pro quo: i don't agree with Christian groups that work toward turning their practices into laws. but i do reserve that Christians, likewise, are entitled to these practices. there were a few things i thought about the article:
1)try not to compartmentalize Christians. as the article said, many pastors don't want to get involved in these petty issues: they just want to serve the Lord
1)assuming that people have a right to sexual preference (i think so) it goes both ways: christians do have a right to express if they believe it to be 'deviant behavior'. the article seemed to imply that the Catholic who said this should not have been allowed to do so. That may be just why Christians feel 'persecuted'.
3)The article almost seems to equally support that liberalists have a persecution complex.

More to the point, they have reaction formationist problems with homosexuality in general. What they most fear in their own psyche, they profess to hate or need to control...through legislation or abuse of power. It is like the preacher's expounding about adultery from the pulpit while he has a weekly hit with a prostitute.
Their agenda is scarey because it is built totally on fear...not of the gay members of society, but of their own twisted..closeted desires. They have politicized the debate to a frightening level in places like Denver, etc.
One man's freedom taken is just a prelude to everyone's freedom lost. America needs energy to do better..straights, gays, disabled, Martians, ....the agenda should be to protect our civil liberites. Period. I certainly don't want to massage their (those w/ persecution complex ) phantom angst. They are the damn problem....not the gay community.

Actually, its pretty insidious... it is a political stratagem... a tactic. Christian 'Dominionists' (Reconstructionalists, Theonomists) have largely usurped the local level political apparatus of the Republican Party, and are engaged in a sub rosa process to politically motivate moderate Christians under the false cover of religious issues such as morality and family values. The goal is nothing less than the takeover of all elective offices in the USA.
Their doctrine comes from the Bible, starting with the term 'dominion' at Genesis 1:28... “And God said unto them, [Adam and Eve] Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it; and have DOMINION… over every living thing.” They interpret DOMINION as: “... a supremacy in determining and directing the actions of others or in governing politically, socially, or personally.”
They want to remake the USA as a theocracy... and they are succeeding.
Its most common form, Dominionism, represents one of the most extreme forms of Fundamentalist Christianity thought. Its followers, called Dominionists, are attempting to convert the laws of United States so that they match those of the Hebrew Scriptures. They intend to achieve this by using the freedom of religion in the US to train a generation of children via home-schooling and in private Christian religious schools. Later, their graduates will be charged with the responsibility of creating a new Bible-based political, religious and social order. One of the first tasks of this order will be to eliminate religious choice and freedom. Their eventual goal is to achieve the "Kingdom of God" in which much of the world is converted to Christianity. They feel that the power of God's word will bring about this conversion. No armed force or insurrection will be needed; in fact, they believe that there will be little opposition to their plan. People will willingly accept it. All that needs to be done is to properly explain it to them.
All religious organizations, congregations etc. other than strictly Fundamentalist Christianity would be suppressed. Nonconforming Evangelical, main line and liberal Christian religious institutions would no longer be allowed to hold services, organize, proselytize, etc. Society would revert to the laws and punishments of the Hebrew Scriptures. Any person who advocated or practiced other religious beliefs outside of their home would be tried for idolatry and executed. Blasphemy, adultery and homosexual behavior would be criminalized; those found guilty would also be executed. There are two conservative Christian pastors in Texas who have advocated the execution of all Wiccans. Ralph Reed, the executive director of the conservative public policy group the Christian Coalition has criticized Reconstructionism as "an authoritarian ideology that threatens the most basic civil liberties of a free and democratic society."
By failing to openly confront this insidious agenda, we have sown the seeds of our own destruction, while these religious wing-nuts are paving the way to Armageddon with gleeful anticipation.

It pisses me off, God. It is no one else's business who can get married. If they don't want gays to get married than they should not marry one. Otherwise, stay out of it.
God, I want to know when in the hell are you going to set the record straight? You created all people and you do not make mistakes. A persons sexuality is the way they are born, it is not a choice. I could not choose to be attracted to women. It is absurd. Get with it, God and teach these ignorant bigots who are using your name as justification to spread hate and bigotry that they are wrong.

It's really upsetting to me. I guess it's that these people are spooked by the idea of their set of choices being one among many that their fellow citizens can choose from. It's worth noting that gays generally aren't trying to force them to stop preaching, stop having what they consider Godly marriages, stop taking their kids to Sunday school, etc.

Experiment 1: Start a new account. Write a sincere religious question in this section. See how you are treated.
Experiment 2: Click on your own handle. See if you can find a single question you have asked that doesn't bait Christians.
