No joke - my Bassett Hound used to eat his OWN turds. We even tried additives to his food from the vet. Nothing worked. The best advice I could give is DONT LET HIM LICK YOU. ECH!

Well, really the answer to this is quite simple. I happen to be a Basset Hound, and my mistress has two fat cats. Her cats are very spoiled, and she feeds them pure and delicious high quality tuna and mackeral, and sometime beef and chicken dinners. All I get is hard kibble. It sucks.

Their gourmet diet obviously makes their terds taste wonderful to me. Whenever and wherever I can, I love to dine on what I like to call Snacky Terds. Especially when they are coated with a crunchy outer layer of sweet tasting litter.

So there you go. They taste great.
ROOF!

Your dog has a vitamin or mineral deficiency. Go to the pet section of your favorite store and look for dog vitamins! I'm serious, dogs eat cat waste because it is full of minerals. You will see a difference very soon.

Try your best to keep your dog out of the litter box until the vitamins have time to work.

Vitamins usually take a week or two to work completely, but you may see a difference sooner than that.

Hope this helps. :-D

Most dogs will do this. Mine did if given the opportunity when I had cats. I hear that cat poop has more protein than dog food. Keep the dog away from the litter box.

They do some weird things. My dogs used to eat horse and cow poop. They'll even roll on another dog's turds - Why? I don't know.. I guess they think it's a great find or something.

Believe it or not there is actually a valid reason why they do.

"Pray drive" in animals has many ways of expressing it's self. By eating or rolling in the feces of their pray they think they become better hidden .

'Sides,, what do you expect from a big ole floppy eared duffes ;)
