Do a little research it was because Iraq was about to stop trading oil world wide in us dollars and start trading in the euro currency, thereby destabilising the us economy ,doesn't anybody read on here ?
The war on terror was all a diversion just to keep the sheeples happy and of course it works so well when people don't ask too many questions or hold their government accountable .
Many Americans find the government's message much more reassuring than the actual facts. The government's message is: "America is virtuous. Virtuous America was attacked by evil terrorists. America is protecting itself by going to war and overthrowing regimes that sponsor or give shelter to terrorists, erecting in their place democracies loyal to America."
Sugarcoated propaganda doesn't present Americans with the emotional and mental stress associated with the hard facts.

I cannot believe some of the things that I am reading. Don't listen to these people the war started because they had weapons of mass destruction and we needed to make sure that they wouldn't keep them. More importantly however, how come things have become so unofficial whatever happened to the days when a war was called world war. Everything seems to happen in a much a more subtle way than it used to and nobody really knows for sure why we still fight.

After we were attacked by terrorists on 9/11, we developed a more aggressive mind-set toward those types of people doing something similar again.
So President Bush adopted a doctrine of pre-emption, which means we would attack anyone we felt might be a threat to attack us.
In Iraq, you had a brutal dictator who killed hundreds of thousands of his own people and had invaded Kuwait in 1990. We repelled him from Kuwait in 1991 and adhered to a cease-fire based on a host of stipulations drawn up by the United Nations. Saddam Hussein violated every single one of those resolutions (16 of them) in the 12 years between the original Gulf War and our invasion in March 2003.
So you essentially have ...
1.) Saddam was a murderer of his own people
2.) Saddam violated the terms of his cease-fire
3.) Saddam supposedly had programs to develop weapons of mass destruction, which our president and various members of our intelligence community were SURE he had (including former Clinton head of the CIA George Tenet)
4.) We felt installing a democracy would make for smoother relations with the U.S., as well as prevent the rise of another similar dictator.
Bush's biggest problem was failing to wrap up all of those reasons in one comprehensive argument for why we needed to go into Iraq. Thus, his critics could easily say his reasoning kept changing every week, when in reality each was a legitimate reason in and of itself.

Because it was a logical foothold in the middle of the middle east in the war on terrorism and argue-ably so presentable to the American public as a threat of WMD's and the disposal of Sadam Husein a genocidal dictator.

If we don't protect our oil flow, our economy will collapse. If that happens we will not be able to support third world (and some first world) countries. This would cause mass people to starve and die. This would lead to many wars in a "land grab". That is why.

Because George Bush was so eager to invade Iraq that he refused to wait for the U N Inspecters to do their job, searching for WMD in Iraq. Thousands of dead American Soldiers later, 10's of thousands of mamed U S Soldiers later, and 100's of thousands of dead innocent people later, here we are 5 years LATER ... no WMD. (Only Fools Rush IN!)

That's a question many Americans need to know the REAL answer for. C'mon, where's the White House Press Secretary on Yahoo Answers...they should have a good answer.
Is it 2008 yet?

it had to do a lot with September 11th. but also Bush ordered Saddam to hand over or destroy all the weapons of mass destruction and he failed to do so by the time indicated. so bush sent troops in to destroy those weapons.

Cause Bush and company said Saddam had weapons of mass destruction which was all a lie so they could invade to get cheaper oil and create a government to their liking.
