I'm looking into a wedding at a park with a rec hall for the reception. Anybody have theirs done like that? Likes and dislikes?

I would recommend looking into a park with a covered area you could use in case it rains. You will also need to invest in chairs for your guests who can not stand for a long ceremony.

You might consider investing in an arch which you can find at most party rental stores. You can dress it up with tule and some garland. That will help people know where to focus their attention. But otherwise you could just let the beauty of nature be your decorations.

The hall will also be a great alternative if the park you want to get married in does not have a covered area. I would carry the nature theme into your reception. Ask around to your local nuseries if you could rent plants to decorate with.

Another thing, you might not be able to close the park off for your wedding and may have complete strangers walking through. Make sure you face the ceremony away from any paths.

Hope this helps!! Congrats and best wishes for many happy years together!!

If you are in an area where the weather doesn't fluctuate then I would think this a wonderful idea!
Where I'm located, the weather can change daily.
Recently an acquaintance married at a park & it rained that day up until about an hour before the wedding; causing the temperature to drop to about 40 degrees. It was under a shelter, but it wasn't near the road & walking to it was uphill & muddy.

I was lucky enough not to have to perform this ceremony as the young lady wanted a Celtic priestess to marry her.

Congratulations!
Risks:
a) Weather
b) Park personnel may be working on the flowerbed 24 feet away.
c) Walking on grass w/ heels - guests.
d) Parking is usually further away.
e) Cosmetic/hair/dressing - tuxing is further away.
f) No control over passer by's and their pets/children
g) Usually more vehicular noise
h) Sound generation is a real hassle. You have at least 3 mikes that need to be run. Speakers. Finding electricity. These apply to large weddings of over 40 obviously.
i) Set up and tear down. Unless you hire a professional company - do you really want your maid of honor hauling chairs back to the parking area?
j) Wind wrecks havoc on candles.
k) No temperature control.
l) Gift deposit location which is secure.
m) Music - even a synth likes electricity.

Parks can be beautiful. After 25 years of marriages, I advise a church unless you can insure July 19 for perfect circumstances.

Be careful if it's a public park, as many places won't let you reserve it. Last month my bf was in a wedding at a public park. Two different couples had both scheduled their wedding for the same day and time. Luckily one of the brides was late so the other party was finished before she got there. Good luck! I hope the weather is great!

I'm having my reception in the ballroom of the local park and rec center. It's wonderful. They have all the tables and chairs included in the rental fee. The price is awesome compaired to having it at a hotel or resturant.

if the park is pretty and it doesnt rain outside weddings are great, rec hall set up buffet style, cuts down on the cleanup.
