Of course not. It's generally done to admire the quality and aroma of the food.

It's not impolite, but it can be considered disgusting or gross, depending on how you go about it. One doesn't need to smell their food before they eat it--and in most restaurants, the food smells potent enough that you will pick up the scent without sticking it to your nose.

No, I do not think it is impolite to smell your food before you eat it, you are the one who ordered it and are paying for it so you should be able to do what ever the heck you want. . So if you want to smell your food go right ahead.I mean it is not like you are sticking your whole face in your dish and sniffing it like some animal go right ahead and enjoy!

It depends on how you smell it, I guess. If you bend down and sniff it like a dog, that might be impolite. Otherwise, the smell is part of the eating experience.

In Japan, slurping your soup or noodles in a distinctly audible manner is considered a compliment to the chef. Smelling your food, if anything, means thta you think it is tantalizing, and therefore most likely delicious. Just be sure not to do anything that's actually impolite, like lick food off the plate or puch the chef in his babymakers.

Impolite to who? You're the one who's gonna eat it. The heck with whatever anyone who sees you sniffing your food thinks. What if it's poison? lol. So my answer is no, it's not impolite.

No it isn't impolite unless you make a disgusted face after wards and too much sniffing would be considered rude.
