I have been talking to this guy for about three months now...he's been to my place and I've been to his place, but he hasn't asked me out on a real date (to the movies or dinner etc) should I ask him? Could there be a reason behind this?

Sure. Give it a whirl. What's he gonna do? Say no? Then you won't have to worry about him anymore, and you can move on to someone who wants to do things besides sit at someone's home.

Maybe he's shy? Maybe he just wants to be friends? Give it a bit more time and then start poking around at the idea of wanting to 'go out' sometime while you're talking to him. It'll be his cue to either step up and ask you out or ... not. That should give you something of an answer. If not that, then simply ask him out yourself. Nothing wrong with a girl asking a guy out.

if you want to ask him, then ask. guys like it when the girls takes a stand once in awhile. and if you're not sure, just bring it up casually by saying somwthing like 'wanna go to the movies with me?' and then when it comes up to pay, tell him 'no i got this one. you can pay next time.' this way, you get the message across. ~

maybe he just want to be normal friends 1st as he may not be ready to settle down that soon.

you can still innitiate the date though to know more about him and his plans for the future.
