I work for Wal-Mart and I notice EVERY DAY about 99% of people with tiny infants still in the infant carrier place the carrier on TOP of the cart (over the area where the child is SUPPOSE to sit). WHY? Don't they KNOW how unsafe that is? Also even the DIRECTIONS for the carrier says that is NOT what it is used for some even say it ON the carrier! It really makes me mad! It is not safe, that REALLY throws off the balance of the cart and is at a greater risk for tipping over. Also before some say that is "intellegence" of a "wal-mart shopper" because I have heard that before (offencive) I have also seen it at other stores like Target, Ukrops, Krogers, Food Lion, and MANY more! My mom's husband and I got into a fight one day because he and my mom came in when my daughter was still in that and put her carrier there. I took the carrier from her and kept my daughter behind the counter because he REFUSED to listen!

I got in trouble later on, but my boss understood after I explained the situation.
I later told him that if they want to be ANYWHERE near her they need to follow MY rules for MY child!
But why do OTHER parents CONTINUE to do it??

That clip latches it into the base of the car.
But it STILL knocks off the balance of the cart, so it is "attached" to the cart, GREAT! But what if it TIPS over! Baby STILL goes CRASHING to the ground, even strapped in that can hurt a baby!
Those carts have a certain balance and adding something to the top of it (or even overloading like people do at the first of the month) can cause it to TIP OVER!

I have also seen a cart fall over with an infant STILL IN THE CARRIER, lucky buckled. The newborn was VERY upset and brused! I think this carrier was "attached" to the cart to with some sort of latch!

I did one of two things, I took my daughter in an infant carrier (the kind you WEAR) or I took a stroller and pulled the cart. BOTH were hard on my back, but safe for my baby. Also at three month my daughter was always fighting having to lay down so I bought one of those covers for the cart (it helped her sit up) and I let her sit. My back was greatful and so was my daughter! We have to take a "course" on shopping cart safety as a part of my training and that is a "no-no" by those standards. We are "suppose" to "educate" our customers in safety (to reduce customer accidents and less people suing Wal-Mart for their own mistake, not the stores) but after the fourth employee got reported for "butting in" they put a stop to it but it is still part of our training.

Yes I have shopped by myself, all the time! My fiance works nights and I works days (only way to have someone watching our daughter, we can't afford daycare). I have to go get groceries alone because he is sleeping! On the RARE times he came (when my daughter was still that little) he would bring the carrier in (I also couldn't carry the carrier) and place it in the basket of the cart and I (or he) would push the empty cart. So yes, I have shopped alone A LOT!

I don't lose sleep over this, I am just wondering and when people want to defend with one thing I just point out something else.

I don't have an answer for that but I agree completely! I have actually seen an infant carrier fall off a cart before inside a Kroger's when another cart collided into it. Luckily the mother was holding the bay at the time. Parents should be a bit more responsible in my opinion!

What do you suggest a mother do? I mean, it is really easy to sit here and ***** about it. Can you offer a solution? What are your ideas?
Many carriers latch or buckle into a cart. And a carrier with an infant in it is no heavier than a small child of 3 yrs of age sitting in the same cart. So, why is it okay to let the 3yr. old sit in the car but the infant can't? If the 3 yr. old doesn't make the cart top heavy then neither will the carrier.
This isn't an issue for me because when I'm at the store I carry by babies in a sling. I hate taking in the carrier. But I find your attitude and your willingness to judge really off putting.

I never wanted a carrier seat. But had I had one I would never have considered how it would unbalance a cart but I can see it now. Thank you for bringing it up now I'll know if I'm babysitting a niece or nephew and can't remove them from the carrier. For the record I carried my baby in any store until he was old enough to sit up in a cart at six or seven months.

i agree with you that your mom n her husband need to respect what you say about your daughter. I hate that parents think they can do whatever they want with your kids (have problems with that myself) but I have NEVER heard that you cant put a child seat on a cart. i have heard that you cant leave a child unattended while in the seat because of chance of tip-ovr but thats common sense. im going to have to check that out but if it wasnt ok dont you think its a little weird that the seats fit perfectly in there? almost like they were made to do it? how else can a single shopper with an infant shop btw because you cant push a stroller and a cart at the same time and its impossible to hold an infant that cant support itself and push a full cart.

My carrier has a clip to latch on to the shopping cart, so I don't know what your talking about.
I know what clip latches on to the base.... that's not what i'm talking about. There are 2 clip things, that latch onto the cart, and you have to squeeze them to get it off the cart, that's what they're for. I think your over reacting, because i have 3 children and none of them have ever toppled over in the cart, nor have i ever seen anyone elses kid do that. If a kid doesn't make the cart "topple over" then what makes you think that a carrier is any heavier?!

It is much easier to see their child when he/she is not in the basket of the cart. Even though it is a safety issue for some carriers, it is also a safety issue for the parents to put their child in the bottom of the cart due to people kidnapping.

have you ever tried doing the grocery shopping, by yourself, with the infant carrier in the back of the cart? I think most people do it out of convenience. I have done it before myself. Everyone is guilty of doing something wrong. anyways at least now when you see a carrier fall you can always say "I told you so"

Most newer carriers actually are designed to clip onto a shopping cart. I am an intelligent loving mother of 2.5 (one on the way) and I put my childrens carriers on the carts (clipped safley) with no incidents. I think it is a lot safer than putting your baby ina filthy Walmart infant cart. Please don't be so quick to judge, especially if you are just a Walmart employee!

You would think with all the instructions and signs posted about the safety factor with carts that it would ring a bell. I did some dumb things with my baby as a young Mother but had never had warnings or info like is there now . I just wish they would protect their little treasures

You know, I'd spend more time crying and moaning over the kids who get kidnapped, raped and beaten everyday. This is really small peas. I'm not losing any sleep over something as trivial as this. Hey, I hit a squrriel today coming home from class. Should I turn myself in to the cops?
