Unemployed and alone........

I used to work as a R.N. on psych units in hospitals for many years and now I have Chronic Major Depression with anxiety that is due to my being in constant pain and being 100% disabled. I also live alone as my wife left me after I became disabled and got Depressed. I say these things to hopefully gain some credibility.

Being Depressed with anxiety is making you crazy, not your antidepressants. Your antidepressants are not working well enough. Your doctor needs to either increase the dose or try you on another medication.

It took a very long time and many trials of different medications before my psychiatrist found the best ones for me. I am on 2 antidepressants plus Buspar for anxiety. Some psych medications work well for some people but not for others. The reasons that sometimes the first antidepressant may not work is not that the doctor doesn't know what he's doing, it's because all of our bodies are somewhat different.

I don't know why you are unemployed or living alone, but both of these conditions are contributing to your depression and whatever you can do to change this will help.

Try to be patient with the process of medication trials but I know how hard that is when you feel terrible and the symptoms of Depression are ruining your life.

I still have some symptoms of depression that, along with my physical problems make my life extremely difficult. But my life is much better on the medication I'm on than if I didn't take it. The truth is, that if it weren't for the antidepressants that I take, I'd be dead. Also, if it weren't for them, if I wasn't dead, instead of a difficult life, I'd have no life, I'd be completely unable to function and have to be in a nursing home.

I don't know if you believe in God or not, but if you do, ask Him for help. Just because we are having these difficulties, doesn't mean that He doesn't love us. Our minds are so small compared to His that we can't understand why we have to go through this. For some reason, I find that if I ask God for help, I get more help from Him than when I don't ask. Without God, knowing that He loves me, and His direct help in answer to prayer, I wouldn't be able to make it.

God bless you.

Well, if you have been on them for awhile, don't stop taking them without your doctors consent. It depends on what type of medication you are taking as to the answer I could possibly give you. Some are SSRI's like (Prozac,Paxil, Lexapro, Zoloft) others are SNRI's such as (Cymbalta,Effexor) some are TCA's such as (Amitriptyline, Doxepin, Pamelor) and others are in a different classification such as (Wellbutrin, Remeron, Trazodone). I have had a hard time, as well. Antidepressants are basically hit or miss type of approach to depression and anxiety. I believe with all my heart that they do help, however you just have to keep trying different ones until you find something that has the least side effects you think you can live with. I would discuss a different strategy with your doctor. Always go to a psychiatrist instead of a family practitioner. I know, somebody will not agree with that last statement, but they know about the meds and how to regulate, and dosage requirements can be different than what a primary care doctor would prescribe.
You mentioned you are out of work and are an emotional mess. My advice to you is don't go it alone. Look for assistance with the local government wherever you live. Some pharmaceutical companies are offereing assistance to people with low income or no income families. Do use whatever resources are avalaible to you, however you have to make an effort and do the searching. I wish i could help you, maybe I did in some way allow you to see there is hope. Good luck to you, and find a good therapist to talk to about your problems. See ya!

Depression has nothing to do with any medicine. Medicines are just addictive and they will never give you any real relief. Its a state of mind pointed downward. It has nothing to do with being unemployed or lonliness. As thoughts are results and not the cause so thinking possitively or negatively is not within anyone's control. Don't listen to anyone as different opinions will leave you at no where. Have a change of mindset and environment around you. Start playing games, some yoga postures and 30 minutes breathing exercises three times a day empty stomach preferably in morning, evening and any other time when you are empty stomach. If you don't know any breathing exercises you just inhale deeply and exhale deeply by both of your nostrils. Keep your eyes closed while doing it. Never keep your head down but try to keep it tilted backward like assertion. Meditate by sitting in a erect posture imaging sun inside center of your both the eyebrows by keeping your eyes closed. Don't believe it but do it and cure yourself within 7 days without any medicine. if you need any further help contact me: yoglifeindia@gmail.com

If you don't think that the anti-depressents that you are on are working and they are making you crazy then maybe you may want your doctor to give you a different one. You should not be an emotional mess if you are taking them as prescribed. It is sort of hard to work when you are in a deep depression and your anti-depressants are not working properly. I would ask your doctor to change your medication and see if something else doesn't work better. You fail to say what type of anti-depressant that you are on so its a little hard to go deeper into the answer. If you have only been on them for a short time you need to give them some time to work on your depression. I would go back to the doctor and tell him how you feel so that you can get the depression under control. Good Luck

Go back to your doctor TOMORROW.

Antidepressants really shuffle the deck, and they're all different! There is no way to figure which ones are right for you except to GUESS. That's right, your doctor is GUESSING, with maybe a little personal experience thrown in. They just keep guessing until they find which one of about 20 work for you.

Maybe you have the wrong ones, or the wrong dosage. Go. Tomorrow. Immediately. Take the day and go. Do it.

Sweety, you're going to be ok. Please email me and we can figure this out. I went through what you're going through although you must feel so scared and alone and losing control....DON'T! You are not crazy, it is the meds that you are taking which have altered your brain chemestry. It's not your fault. You've done nothing wrong, you just trusted a doctor as I did and he has let you down by prescribing you meds without giving you a brain scan first. I know you're scared. email me and we can talk.

I know your problem too well. A close friend of mine is Bipolar. He gave his troubles to God when no one else could help him. He tried all kinds of meds, none helped. He accepted Jesus Christ. When he did, God helped him get better. Sometimes God uses suffering to get our attention. Pain is a good attention getter. The reason people don`t understand or believe in Christ is because God has turned away from them until they accept his son Jesus. When you accept him, he makes himself known to you in a very real way spiritually. If you don`t, you will remain in the darkness, you will never understand Christians. You see Gods Spirit is like the wind. You don`t know where it comes from, or where it goes, but you feel it, you experience it in a very real way. Can you feel the wind, of course. Can you see it, no. Do you know it`s real and see the effects of it, yes. This is what every person who has trusted in Jesus experiences, you can to, anyone can. It`s not fake at all. That`s what the Devil wants people to believe, he doesn`t want them to know. He wants to keep people in the darkness. But God will keep yours eyes shut about these things, until you trust in his son, who gave his life for everyone. This is why people don`t understand God. It`s faith. Take a leap of faith, and experience God in a very real way. He can heal you in every way, physically, emotionally, mentally, and emotionally. He did it for me, he`ll do it for anyone. Godbless.

talk to your doctor or whoever prescribed this for you and gradually get off the medication. change medication or ask your doctor about using excercise and healthy eating instead as a substitute.

whatever you do, don't continue much longer if this medication is not working for you, otherwise things can get worse.

all the best.
