For those who say it isn't a career bull it is many careers all in one. When you become a parent you are also a nurse, maid, cook, chauffer, teacher, coach, loan officer, police officer, lawyer, and everything else all roled into one very harried person. It is the most demanding of all jobs out there and the least paid one ( ZERO). You will work 24/7/365 no such things as vacation or holiday. Those precious crystal vases you dreamed of will be forgotten in the midst of gym shoes and dance lessons. Candle lit dinners for two huh whats that instead hamburgers and frenchfries and mac and cheese are on the menu more than off. Plus with this carrer you also get to work another job 40+ hours a week now what other job will let you do that! But you know what it is the most rewarding of all because no other job can curl up to you and kiss you on the cheek and say I love you mommy, no ther job can make you feel life is great when the day has been crappy and no ther job can be more satisfying as wtching and helping something you created become an adult.

You can be a parent and have a career. I am and I have a career. Most fathers do. But you might also be in a financial situation where you can choose to be a stay at home mom or a working mom.

If you decide you enjoy working, as your children grow up, one of the best things you can instill in them is that working can be enjoyable.

I'm on call 24/7.
I can't remember the last time I went to the bathroom by myself.
I often catch a bite to eat, standing up, bouncing a baby on my hip and playing toesies with a toddler.
I wake up tired.
I go to bed exhausted.
I spend hours researching my parenting decisions -- 40 hours of reading, easily, on the vaccination decision alone.
I have to be constantly alert, aware of my children and their safety.
My muscles ache from repeatedly lifting, dancing, carrying.
I've never felt such fear for another person's wellbeing.

And I love it.

I've never been so physically, emotionally, or intellectually challenged before.
I've never been so in love before.
I've never felt such a drive to be the best I can be.
I've never spent so much time laughing.
Or so much of my day playing.
My heart melts from a glance, an expression, a smile from my children.
I'm in awe that such amazing little people came from us.

Once you have decided to become a parent there are no other careers more important.

* A hundred years from now no one will care what kind of car you drove, what kind of house you owned, how much money you made but, the world might be a better place if you made a difference in the life of a child.

does that help?

It's the hardest job you'll ever have. Requirements: To be on call 24/7. The ability to drive a car while holding a bottle for feeding, settle disputes going on in the back seat. Basic first aid is a must! You'll work long hours with no pay but many rewards. Most days the only time you will be able to sit down for lunch it will be to feed the child not yourself! I could write a book but I don't have time!

I am a nurse, counselor, taxi driver, cook, dry cleaner, laundress, maid, small repair maintenance worker, toy fixer, babysitter, the list can go on on. How does it compare? If I had a job outside the home I would get paid. Instead I take my paychecks in hugs kisses and the occasional thank you. You get breaks and lunches, I get to do errands while I eat, I don't get breaks even when they nap. But I have the best boss in the world. Instead of monetary bonuses I get pictures that I can put on my fridge.

First off, it's not a career! But it has no comparsons! The biggest, you don't get paid, it's 24/7, can't just call in sick...the list could go on and on!
