My wife is having lots of problems due to medication for high blood pressure prescribed by a military doctor. I dont think that this doctor cares at all. Would Tricare charge us if we went to an emergency room out in town and not on base?

have her request either a referral or another PCM. You cannot just arbitrailily decide to go to the emergency room unless there is a true emergency. If TRICARE later determines that her vist was not an emergency, they will deny coverage and you would be required to pay out of pocket.

Every Base hospital has a Patient Advocate. Have her contact them if she feels she's being given the runaround by her PCM.

You are suppose to get an approval from tri care before going to an E.R., however you can go and when the hospital sends you a bill , just take the bill to your tri care office and submit, they will then handle it. If they ask any questions tell them that youand your wife were out of town and she became ill. Are you on tri care prime? If so I would ask for a different Primary Care Manager, before going the route of the E.R. In the long run she will want a dr that she can go to, not always using the E.R. I also am prescribed blood pressure meds through tri care and an Army dr but I have no problems with them. Good Luck !!!!

Ok, I would get a hold of the Dr and tell him/her that you want a Referral to a Civilian Dr. If this doesn't happen, then get a hold of your Tri-Care Patient Rep....or even Tri-Care Office. Explain the problems you are having with this particular PCP.
Now, if you have to see a Civilian Facility due to Emergency, Tri-Care will pay for it. If you go just because, they won't....BUT you can file the Bills on your Taxes.
I have included some Links, but go to your Search Engine and just put in Tri-Care and it will bring up so many things....
I refuse to see Military Dr's.....we live in Germany and I see ALL German Dr's.....
Good Luck!

no they shouldn't charge you. best option is to go to the tricare office and get the proper forms to fill out take them to the hospital with you. keep copies of the papers on hand in the car for when you need them you don't have to dig them out to take them with you. but most hospitals have the papers necessary to fill out for tricare. my husband is in the army and we have done this many times.

There should be a 1-800 number on your policy. Call them and ask. Hope your wife feels better soon.

You need to talk to your insurance providers to find out what they will and will not allow. And people want the government to roll out national medicine. Here is more evidence why that would be a disaster.
