Okay, I am just trying to help, yet the other posts have you on the right track, they just don't go far enough for you to do it right.

Connect the Video Out and the Audio L & R Out of the DVD player to the Video In and Audio L & R In on the BACK of the VCR. Once you do this the VCR will recieve signal from the DVD player and then pass it on to the TV (ch 3 or 4, depending on what you have set it up). The DVD remote will work the DVD functions, but to watch a DVD here's how you do it........With the TV remote--Turn on the TV and set the channel to either 3 or 4 (whichever you normally watch VCR tapes on). Then with the VCR remote--Turn on the VCR, press the VCR/TV button, so that the VCR now takes over the TV. Then on the VCR remote find the INPUT Select function (I will explain later). Press the input select to the Video In and Audio L & R in of the VCR. The DVD movie should now be displayed on the screen of the TV. The DVD remote will control the DVD player and the TV remote will control the television Volume.

INPUT Selector on your VCR is either a listed button on your remote (which makes it very easy) or you have to reprogram your cable tuner in the VCR to now recongize the DVD Player. This is simple to do....Follow the directions above to have the TV display signal from the VCR. Press the menu button on the VCR Remote to display the set up menu of the VCR, select cable and auto program. Make sure that you have a DVD movie PLAYING in the DVD during this. Once complete, your VCR will recongize the DVD signal as channel 00 or Input one and you can access this by pressing the channel up/down buttons on your VCR remote. Any further questions or need help, just email me and I will help you get it straight.

To be honest you will run into problems running a DVD player through a VCR. You will most likely have picture fading problems as the video from a DVD is messy (copy protection feature) and your VCR will cause havic and prevent your TV from cleaing up the messy video properly.

Just a heads up. Your best bet would be is get a RF Modulator at Radio Shack or another electronics store and bypass the VCR.
Unless your VCR remote is a universal you will need the DVD remote to control the DVD player no matter how you hook it up. Pickup a decent universal remote that will control your DVD, VCR, and TV.

Use the DVD's remote. On the VCR you only have to turn it on and select the right input. The VCR then will output the DVD's signal to the TV set.

just because you plugged the dvd player into the vcr doesn't mean that your vcr remote will now control both of them, unless you can program your vcr remote to work both, or your tv remote to work all three, you will still have to use the separate remotes for all three!

You will need to control the DVD with its own remote, but the VCR shouldbe set to AV or AUX (depends on the model) for the output to run to the monitor.
