Patience is number one. Second is know exactly what it is you want the pup to know, be precisely repetitive. If you tell it one way don't change the way you say it. Be firm but gentel.
As for potty training, Don't use trainning pads or paper. This gives him permission to go in the house. Take him out every 15 to 20 minutes, because his bladder is still forming. Take him out 10 minutes after it eats or drinks or plays. If you are away, get a dog create big enough to stand up and turn around " the dog not you ha. Take him out as soon as you get up in the morn. Feed him and let him out again. Major thing when at anytime he does his thing out side, give big time praise. Then let him in and put him, a small dish of water, and his own toy{ no raw hide becase he can choke or get twisted gut if he swallows to much} and a blanket or towel in the create. As soon as you get home let him out. In less than 2 weeks of this he will get the idea to go out, and ask to do so. If he goes in the house and you didn't see him do it don't say any thing to him. He will get confused. If you see him going, grab him up and firmly say no bad and take him right outside. Praise him even if nothing more comes out.
As for leash training, use a reagulare leash.Find a spot, feild or park. Pick a spot in the distance and start walking. If he stops to smell or runs ahead, turn to the left or right without signaling him your doing it. Pick another spot ahead. If you reach the spot then make him sit. If he looks at you, verbally praise and pat him. If he doesn't look at you and is sitting, then just pat him. This instills giving you the attention. When to go and don't get left behind.
Chewing your things. Don't give socks or shoes to play with, he will think its ok to take your things. Take away your thing and say firmly bad. Then give him his toy and praise and play Just alittle while to get him interested in it.
Bitting. If he bites firmly say ouch thats bad, and ignore him for 5min. He will catch on. Its what they do in a pack.
Barking. Squirt bottle of water.
If he is going to be a big dog, I suggest no tug of war.
Imprint him by opening his mouth. handling his feet and ears. This way he will be easy for you and the vet to handle him.
There are many good books. If you have a petsmart or someother pet supply, they have many. I give you this advice because I know not every one can afford a trainer. I have been training dogs for over 10 years and a vet tech for 7 years. If you stick with this stuff, you and your puppy will be very happy. Lots of love, patience and praise remember. Good luck and have fun
