oh gosh...the ideas are endless!!! But I would recommend keeping it simple for as the child grows it will be easier to transform. Painted walls with perhaps a few decals. Pychologists recommend bright colors but not overwhelming. A circus theme , sports theme, underwater sea adventure. Maybe even a mural on the wall. (simply rent a projector from the nearest library, find pictures you like in books or posters, and project them onto the walls and then stencil it and paint it in.
Look for "Surprise By Design" with the Michael verdi and Rebecca Cole. They always had wonderful ideas for every area, inside and out. It used to be a design show on TV..and they created things under a specific budget. they were great. But the possibilities are endless!!!! start here...copy and paste it in the brower because it cuts off...

My daughter is having her first baby,it's a boy too! We are sewing the bumper pads and making the quilt and wall hangings, pillows for the rocking chair etc. She likes the nursery jungle theme. I was sort of disappointed because I like the baby blue colors etc but it's her baby! We saved a lot doing it ourselves we discovered that if we can't find the exact cloth she wants we can scan or download a photo and print it out on transfere paper and iron it onto cloth. This way everything matches! Good luck and congrats! Also e-bay has a huge selection of nursery items. new and still in the original package at a fraction of what you'd pay at the store!

I'm not sure of websites. But I did get a cool idea on how to do it yourself. Use a projector to trace it on to your walls. I wanted to do Dr. Seuss really bad, but ended up doing Classic Winnie the pooh. You could do Green eggs & ham, Go dogs go by the top of the door & Cat the hat on another wall. I saw it online, it was so long ago I don't remember where anymore. I think if you google decorating baby rooms. It will come up with some things for you. Have fun & congratulations!:)

You can do a lot with paint:
Get paints and decorate the walls in a theme...underwater...rockets and space, NASCAR...super heroes....etc. You can even paste glow-stars on the ceiling.
You can make your own mobiles...also sew your own baby quilt with cool prints...also a hanging hammock for stuffed animals is cute and handy.
Your basic crib, changing table and such should be new, store bought. They have new standards for safety. Everything else you can improvise.

My sister, in her sons room, took pictures of cars from calenders, magazines etc and framed them. She hung them on the wall, bought some cheap small tools and put them on the wall as well. This looked great, then she painted small racing stripes that looks like stripes on the side of a race car, and just small car trinkets on the dressers and curtains that are solid colored to match the pictured cars. It is nice and looks great. You may not want cars, but this is an idea to think about.
