Masticated means you were chewing gum or eating,right. The church is the house of God. And you are required to show some form of respect. That's the place of worship. Would you not feel offended if people eat while you're trying to speak to them.? I'm sure you will. Well in church,the priest or minister gives sermons and imparts the teachings of God,because they act as His representatives.

As long as it doesn't have anything to do with shellfish. Especially in church!
