Leaving the dog outside is not an option. I've tried repellant spray and reprimands, but nothing works. I give her treats when she is good.

Definitely consider crating your pup. But other options include giving him tasks to do while you're gone. Our dog gets bored and anxious when we're not at home, so we got several toys to help him stay active and entertained. He loves the Kong -- freeze a goody inside there and it will keep you dog occupied for hours. We also have a toy that talks to the dog with a pre-recorded message in our voice whenever he moves it around. This helps him feel like we're home. We also leave the TV on for him. Again, the sound of voices helps him think he's not alone.

First of all, how old is the dog? If he/she is still a puppy (up to 1 year for smaller breeds, and 2 years for larger breeds), then the chewing may be due to that. The most successful option would be to crate train the dog, and leave it in the crate when you are gone. I have had to do this before. It is definantly not cruel or inhumane. If you train the dog correctly, it will actually see the crate as its bed and safe spot. You can probably find some useful info on crate training on the net. A large crate will probably run you $50 depending on where you live.
Another option is buying the dog toys as an alternative to chew versus remotes and telephones. Also childproof the house from the dog. You could even go so far as to you a child gate to confine the dog to doggy-proof room(s) in the house. One more thing to try to do is exercise your dog adequetly during the time you do have at home, a tired dog is less likely to chew things up and etc...
Just keep perservering and stick to your guns in your training, good luck!
To reply to your recent addition, an old dog can definantly learn new tricks. Just make sure to make the dog feel like the crate is a good thing and never use it as a punishment. It should be just fine.

I had the same problem with my bullmastiff (and still do if I don't do my part). Crate training is the ONLY way to do this.
The sprays and reprimands do no good. The dog has no idea 99% of the time what they done to deserve the reprimand. They just know you're mad and you're holding something (they probably think we're mad at the object we are holding or disposing of).
Once your dog is housebroken (which is excellent to do by crate training), you can get a larger crate to keep them in while you are gone. This gives them a little more room to stretch out and be comfy. Give them toys and safe treats.
My bullmastiff loves her crate; all we have to do is say "go to your room," and in she goes. It saves money, your items, and your sanity. When you leave them out, they usually mess things up because they are bored.
Good luck.

you don't say how old the dog is. but the problem is when your away the dog gets bored and looks for something to do. The phone and remote are like toys to her she doesn't know the difference. Our beagle did the same thing. you need to crate her while you are away. For her own protection as well as your items. I always thought it was cruel but I have learned I was wrong. She no longer chews our stuff and plays only with her toys. She even goes in her crate by her self when she wants to be alone. Good luck

Crate training is the ONLY way you can be sure your stuff AND your dog will be safe!

I have 6 inside dogs and they are ALL crate trained! Whenever we leave they for a while they are always in their crates or their outdoor kennels (we live in the country).

Good luck and Goddess Bless you and your pooch!

shove what ever it is that it's been chewing on in his face, but playfully, then when she tries to take it bop her with it once hard so that she yelps with each object. the next times u dont have to hit her as hard but enough that it hurts her a little. after a few times she wont want anything to do with that object like the phone. I'm not trying to be rude this does work. my dog used to chew on shoes now he will sniff of them occasionaly but wont chew on them. also try getting her a lot of toys that she really likes. show her that it is okay to chew on the toy but not the other stuff. As for the furniture once again bop her once so that she'll yelp say "NO" very angrily, then say 'GET DOWN" and put her in the floor. after a while she'll stay in the floor, but it would help if you gave her some blankets or a doggy bed so she didn't have to sit on the hard floor.

interior the previous I unquestionably have been sucessful doing issues in small steps. rather of going appropriate from the crate to the completed homestead, try sectioning them off in a small room. The small room ought to be freed from something they are in a position to get in worry with and crammed with fairly some toys to maintain their interest. additionally, dont close them in a room by ability of shutting the door because it could boost stress. rather, use a gate or something to dam the doorway. finally they gets use to retaining themselves concentrated on one yet another and the toys and not the pillows. you could then start to furnish them greater freedom. interior the recommend time, get use to giving them a very good long 40 5 minute walk (or some kind of workout) appropriate formerly you circulate away. A canines who's finished of capability is plenty greater probable to get into worry while left on my own then a drained canines. additionally, make the sofa off cut back for the time of the circumstances you're homestead. ultimate the canines (a stern No! and stern physique language ought to be solid) in case you seize as much as sniffing the pillows/sofa. you should circulate so a strategies as leaving the pillows on the floor while you're homestead and correcting them while they examine them out. they ought to quickly learn they're off limits. *Edit- Please ignore approximately advice to easily save your canines exterior all day. This doesnt restoration the challenge. canines with issues interior, many times devlope issues outsite like barking, digging etc. you will additionally ought to grant appropriate shelter that's greater time and money spent. merely spend the time training your canines a thank you to act interior the place its risk-free.

Crate your dog when you are not at home.. It makes them feel secure and will save you a ton of money in the long run.
Also, give her toys that she is allowed to chew on (nylabones or gummabones are great).
