I am a Roman Catholic most likely because my parents raised me like that. However, it is my choice to keep my religion and personally I am very happy with it. Since there's no way of telling which religion is actually correct, I tend to look for one that feels right to me. I guess that being a Catholic seems to work for me, and in a world where stuff tends not to work out, I like to stick to what feels right. If I was raised jewish than it would probably feel right for me to be jewish.

I am a Protestant Christian. At first, I followed this religion and believed in God because my parents did, and taught me that God does exist.
But when I got about 26 or 28 years old, I started wondering if what they taught me was right or not. So I studied various religions and types of beliefs. I prayed to God that if He existed to please let me know.

It wasn't an epiphany or anything and it wasn't sudden, but as a bit of time went by, I could see that there had to be more than coincidence going on. God came to be very important to me. Its a relationship a lot like any other relationship, except with God as my Father and Jesus as my Savior, there is nothing I want that is not provided for me: security, happiness, peace, contentment, and comfort. Whether they are given from God or another human being at God's direction doesn't matter, He always provides all. And He forgives my mistakes, and I have the hope of a future life of peace after this one, where I will be reunited with people I have loved and miss, who have died.

My own knowledgeable choice now--and a very happy one! : )

Atheist also, why anyone would want to follow the writings of a book is beyond me. I'm curious to see some of these answers, you would think with an all powerful god he wouldn't need a book he could just send messages ESP or something

God senselessly murdered millions of humans and billions of animals in the flood
How do we know it was senseless? Because in Christian mythology, "God" is supposed to be "all-knowing." If God were to exist, God would know what was coming when he created Adam and Eve. Therefore, God knew he would be murdering millions of people. Why didn't God simply speed up Jesus' arrival to avoid the atrocity that is the flood? Or why didn't God program Adam and Eve when he created them to completely circumvent the need for such a horrendous atrocity?
The idea that Christians would accept a mass-murdering lunatic as their object of worship shows just how deep religious delusion runs. By (supposedly) murdering nearly every human on the planet, this imaginary God is far more heinous than Hitler. No "loving" and "perfect" being can also be a mass-murderer bent of global genocide. Yet Christians willfully worship him. There is no better indicator that religion is delusion and that God is imaginary.

I am Baptist. I believe what I believe by faith. I don't know a better way to say this. I know I am going to get thumbs down answers from non believers, but...... Just like you have faith that what you believe is right, I have faith that what I believe is right.

I didn't all of a sudden have an "awakening" as you called it. It was little steps. It started out a little at a time. I was saved 17 years ago this weekend. My friend was killed in a car accident just a couple days before and it made me wonder about what happens to us. I didn't want to believe that I just laid in the ground and rotted for all eternity. So, I asked someone, and they told me what happens.. I either go to heaven or hell. I choose heaven.

The more Bible that I read and the more I attended church, the more I grew in my faith and my belief. Things around me seemed more obvious. I don't know how to put it into words. Over time, things just clicked with me. I don't know everything there is about my faith, I am still learning everyday. But that is why it is called faith.

Thanks for asking an honest, non judmental question. I appreciate this.

I am an Christian, my parents played a small part in my experience,(except for every Sunday,we went to church, and then basically fought on the way home. I have always loved "Jesus" it was neat to be who I was ,and have a best friend that I could turn to, God on the other hand I had a very long battle with him, just as I did with my real father. For a long time all the Blessings that he gave me, I tried to destroy them as well as myself. But I had some very real spiritual awakenings that reinforced nad changed how how I felt about God, I could never understand why a loving God would want to slaughter animals, especially baby sheep, that was something I could not get use to, and I guess when I get to Heaven, that will be a question that I would like answered, but I'll see when I get there. Deep down in my heart I do believe that god came down to Earth as a baby "Jesus" or as his only son, and he was to teach of how to treat your fellow man, he experienced in the flesh what it was like to be tempted, all the sins that are in the world today. I have Faith in Gods' Will for me and others and I believe that once you believe that "Jesus is the only son of "God" the angels in Heaven will celebrate another soul is saved. Even though the body of Christ was dead, he left in his place the Holy Spirit" which is to guide us in the matters of the heart, and to strenghen our bond between God and man.I find great joy in knowing that God will never turn from me, and if I ask for something in his sons' name, in time it will happen. During my life so far, I have had several spiritual awakenings, so as for myself, I could never deny him or say that he is not real. It is a belief in Faith that sets us apart, so to speak, as admittenly we are all sinners and it is Awesome to know that we are forgiven. I choose to believe! God Bless You

JellyBean,My parents believed there is a God,and "I think things are predestined".The bible says both are true. I felt the spirit of God within my own Heart,it promted me to seek and I prayed for a teacher,God sent me a man from india,he showed me the way into the heart where I experience unconditional LOVE and more. He taught the same as jesus but with clarity, now I understand the bible. jelly bean, you are not looking for answers, just to comiserate with others who agree with you. you will never understand any thing by doing that.

One day the truth calls and you listen. It usually happens when you realize that your brilliance and humanity is not what you thought it was. And you are knocked down so low that you finally must look up, that is when you cry out in your pain and misery and are found by God. And another lost sheep has been led back into the flock

as a kid i was raised 7th day Adventist. however since having conflicts with the church i am no longer under their control. But I'm sure if the church didn't treat my family so badly then i would still be dumb and brainwashed to this day.... I should go back and thank them.

I'm a freethinker and i am like this because i don`t need someone to tell me what to do. And i`m sick of bastards that are trying to convert people, for me the religion is a personal thing and a personal perception so i think that everyone should have his/her own point of view about it.
