Wait until after you graduate college and have a place of your own and then get a dog. What are you planning on doing when you go to college? Even if you can bring the dog with you you won't have the time to devote to a high energy breed like a Sheltie. I'm sure your father doesn't want to be taking care of a dog he never wanted. Dogs are incredibly expensive, a well bred sheltie will run at least $600. Then you have to shell out $200-$300 for spay/neuter surgery. high quality food is about $60 for a 26 pound bad. Annual vet costs is another $200. Add in the cost for heartguard and frontline at about $50 a month or more. Obedience class, crate, toys, bedding, collar, leash, on and on with the expenses.
