Use 3 colors in the brown family. The darkest one you paint a stripe of 15 cm thick at 30 cm from the ceiling. The second less dark color a stripe of 20 cm thick above the darkest one. The lightest color you use to paint the whole kitchen including the ceiling.

I would go with a light color because the kitchen should be nicely lit when the sun is out. Something like a tan or a nice peach or yellow. I like a kitchen that glows during the daytime.

I'm sure you know the "rule of thumb" about colors. Light makes rooms look bigger and dark makes them look smaller, but I say paint a color you love! A terracota or salmon would look great or a shade of yellow that you love. Remember, though, that yellow (more than any other color) will INTENSIFY when on the walls. A sage green would be soothing too.

I would go with a light Celadon (celery) green. With the color of the wood it would add warmth to the room and look very sophisticated. Most people wouldn't pick green, but, it is becoming a popular color in decorating.
Have fun! Remember...it's just paint! If you don't like it ... you can paint it again!

I have a small kitchen and it was white for a long time. Then I got blue wallpaper and it made it look too dark. So I had white on white wallpaper put in and it looks great. I love wallpaper because you don't have to repaint every few years. It looks good until you get sick of it.

Bright, white or yellow. Anything darker will make the space look smaller than it is. You can always add color with accessories and window treatments.
