I'm afraid there's no good way to get there without traffic if you're arriving at 3pm on a Friday. There's only one main way to go, and that's to take the 405 north to the 118 west. The key is to get out of the airport and on the road as quickly as you possibly can, because on Friday afternoon/evening, traffic on the 405 is just brutal, but it's worst between 4pm to 8pm. Once you get to the 118, it shouldn't be so bad.
If you don't mind winding around some and want a more scenic route (heck, if it's going to take a long time anyway, why not take a more beautiful drive, right?), take the coastal route along PCH and then through Malibu canyon and around Thousand Oaks. It will take a while but it's a beautiful drive, at least. Check it out:

Whichever route you take, just sit back, make sure you've got some good tunes, and relax. There's no point stressing about traffic. Drive safely!

You couldn't pick a much worse time of the day. There is no avoiding traffic at this time of day. Anyway, you need to take the 405 North to the 118 West (Which puts you through the 405/101 interchange- the most congested in the world (NO JOKE!). Anyway, the 118 will take you into Simi Valley. The drive should take 1 1/2- 2 hrs (NOT A JOKE!)

LAX to Simi Valley at 3PM, avoid traffic? You gotta be kidding. You say you have never been there before, so you are in for the most horrible experience of your life.

I guess that puts you there Friday. There is no way to avoid traffic in LA. Be sure and stop by the restroom before you leave the airport, you're gonna love the North 405 on Friday afternoon. You might want to consider Burbank airport next time.

You cannot avoid traffic, unless you are wealthy and can charter a helicopter. Assuming you are not, here is The Super Shuttle:
