What is the purpose of points? Why does everyone want them so bad that they go around writing nonsense answers just to earn 2 points?

In my opinion the higher the level you are, the bigger loser you are. All that means is that you spend ALL of your free time asking strangers opinions.

Mental reward. I feel pretty good when one of my incredible answers is actually recognized as such. I realize the points don't mean anything, but it's human nature to not care.

It may be an ego thing. It feels really good to be picked as best answer. I do not have a clue why I am doing this but it may be of some help to someone. I wonder too about the stupid little answers some people post. I have not looked to see what it means to be at level 5 but one day I may either get there or look at the details of this site better.

its something fun to do. we can ask anyone a question, but here you have the ability to ash hundreds/thousands of people the same question and pick the answer you think best answers your question. in the process the answerer gets rewarded for it, tell me that your dad or teacher gets rewarded for giving the answer that best suits your needs? besides, its 2 points off the bat, possibly 12 points for the best answer!!
i also think it's a way to organize communications with the rest of the Yahoo users so we, as a whole, can help one another. I say Yahoo to Yahoo answers for this forum of discussion.

People get points to go to a higher level that way they can ask and answer more questions. It's like a game that never ends........

I think it may start that way, then after a while you become more selective about your answers and the questions you ask. Then again some people are gaming and they will answer just about anything with "thanks for the 2 pts". Funny how it works sometimes.

The points are a way yahoo answers gets people in here, TO me the points only let you answer more qustions.
I am sorry, there are just so many people that go "thanks for the points or ... they will just say you can find it your self"

It is a fun challenge that is sad when people write dumb stuff just for the points. I love it when I get a BEST answer.
